What fuel spec.
Is regular good enough or do we have to have premium as the minimum?
I would suggest that a specification set for regular is good enough and if you want to take advantage of premium the technology should allow for it? And lets get this thing built and on the road! |
Direct Injected will mean most likely an adaptive ECU if I remember correctly so any grade of standard fuel will work but I'm sure Toyota will reccommend Premimum for maximum performance.

If this is a high compression high revving engine (which it better be if only NA) I would say its gonna need 91 octane. And if there is a turbo version 91 MINIMUM.
Im still waiting for a turbo version with E85 to be announced. |
I still don't know why automakers haven't started making 'Flex-fuel' Turbo engines, detecting the E85 and cranking the boost... It's got such high detonation-resistance ("Octane Rating")!
DI Makes lower octane / higher compression or boost possible, so I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota did some impressive stuff on regular gas; or if even on aftermarket tunes, premium didn't help as much as it does with port-injected cars. But I really don't care what gas grade it is - it's a $.05-.18 difference on $3/gal, just not that impactful. I don't fully understand why people get so emotional over fuel levels. If you want to save money, drive for MPGs and not smiles. Definitely second getting this thing on the road... but I'll still be a student when it's released! |
hehe we get 98RON here in australia :p 91 is the minimum. the turbo E85 would be awesome.. can anyone say e85 exige (sc one :D)
|
... hehe, sorry to rain on your parade but 98RON is the same as 93AKI that the US sans California gets (California gets 91AKI, or 95RON)
|
aah touche. i didnt know US uses AKI index rather than RON index :p
iv only ever lived and pumped gas in Europe and Australia |
