Washing black cars

So I have to imagine there is a post about this somewhere but I honestly can't find it, so if someone could point me in that direction that would be helpful.

Otherwise- black car owners! What do you use to wash/wax/dry your car? This is my first black car and I am trying so very hard not to make swirls or any of that fun stuff. Products/techniques/advice?

Thanks!

Two buckets, grit guard in each, meguiars gold class shampoo, high quality wash mitt, plush waffle weave to dry. Start there every week and watch YouTube for a lot of other more specific and technical stuff.

Use a wheel brush and car soap for your wheels to keep it simple and dry with a separate towel.

Once you get that down, meguiars ultimate spray wax and ultimate detailer are great as well as their gold class carnauba plus spray wax and detailer.

All can be had for 50 bucks on amazon or wal mart and will work excellent for maintenance washes

Opticoat or CQuartz. Then use a waterless wash.

What do you consider high quality as far as wash mitts go?

One thing to remember on washing a black car. I always pre rinse really thorough to get that loose dirt off!

Has anyone used the Turtle Wax Black Box kit?

good things bad things? i've heard both but mostly through the grape vine so I'm curious for those who have actually used it? I'm so terrified of ruining my car! :(

I've used a drive-thru car wash in an emergency (yes, cringe! I did!). It got all the dust and pollen off, as well as most of the recent bird sh**. However, I did have to use good auto glass cleaner on all windows and mirrors, and use quick detailer on the body. The car wash left streaks and also left certain places no cleaner than before.

However, with some TLC and microfiber, I made it work.

I'm going to be washing by hand myself from now on.

Gary Dean wash method like above.... Only way to fly, I wish I had side by side comparison of my car and a friends but its Night and day the difference...I have an asphalt which is almost black so I can relate...there is minimal swirling on my car on his theres just swirl marks looks like spider web all over the car really...I use beyond infinity sealant right now...about to switch to the infinate diamond shield and juice boost.

I'll also recommend using two mitts... One for the top, and second for bottom half since all the dirt seems to collect there. Keep using the bottom one only for the bottom for the next washes.

Any recommendations on a decent foam gun ? Not trying to break the bank but don't want to cheap out as well :O

gdrider77 04-17-2014 06:34 PM

This is the foam cannon i use, plus use the honeydew, its great! Not the cheapest in the world, but im a big believer in buying good quality tools once, and have them last forever/really long time.

I love the honey dew cleaner, realyl foams up amazing, hoping to find a new soap local though, hate having to buy a bunch to save on shipping from chemical guys. I really need to do some more research and find a good foamy soap for use in my foam gun.

Any ideas? Anyone?

Gary deans ships free...I think?

Here in Texas, washing your car on your driveway can get you fined if you're caught :(

Drought laws in affect so generally can't use too much water :/

Especially when there's dirt spots and dirt roads which leave a huge mess, my best option comes down to carwash (cringe)

Fett4Real 04-21-2014 04:04 AM

Waterless wash for that situation.

feel free to use whatever product you think works best. the only thing that truely matters is the quality of product used not to mention my vehicle has 5 layers of acrylic sealant and a layer of wax.

I did the same but I haven't received it yet. I'll start out by rinsing the car off completely. Then foam the car. Let the soap drip off. Rinse again. Then 2 bucket wash method using 2 mitts (one for top of the car one for the bottom half). I'll have grit guards in each bucket. Then rinse. Dry with waffle weave. Polish. Buff. Wax. Buff. If you guys haven't checked out the junkmans videos, I suggest you should. He's like a guru when it comes to washing cars.
