"Hot" smell coming from engine after latest OpenFlash - 1.59

Hey Guys,

So earlier today I flashed to the latest OFT files (1.59) and drove it around a bit. The car feels great, however after getting out I noticed a "hot" smell coming from the engine bay. I opened the hood didn't see anything with any smoke or other abnormalities. Additionally, there weren't any CEL's being lit up when I was driving.

I had a friend come out with me and he immediately noticed the smell as well so I'm positive it's not just in my head. I should note that the previous files I was using (1.34) didn't have this issue at all.

Anyone else experience this with the latest files? I'm just wanting to make sure that something bad isn't happening go the car.

The 1.5x tunes have been arround for months now. The 1.50 through 1.59 revisions have just been additional rom support and no tuning changes so many people running 1.5x tunes.

you might have had plastic bag or somtheing else flick up on exhaust or you were just driving it harder. Dont think their is a problem with 1.5x tunes.

Did you leave a taco on the intake manifold? That would explain the smell ;)

All kidding aside, there is nothing about the OTS maps that would cause any weird smells. I suspect you will smell the same thing if you went back to the stock tune and drove around. If so, I would look for something stuck too (and burning up on) the exhaust like steve99 mentioned above.

Cheers

There are numerous "hot smell" threads that are unrelated to tuning.

Might have oil leaking onto the exhaust system. A relatively prevalent issue with this engine. Not likely related to the tune.

Is your Coolant leaking?

Could be the smell of the clutch if you drive enthusiastically. OFT tends to make me do that. :burnrubber:

On a windy Sunday last spring (a few weeks after I did my Perrin headerback install), one of those big clear leaf bags blew across in front of me. I tried to swerve but with the traffic around me I wasn't able to dodge it. I thought nothing more of it until I was walking out to my parking lot and noticed something hanging down under my car. I look under and its the big ass leaf bag I thought I avoided. I guess the heat from midpipe sucked it onto my exhaust and shrink wrapped it. It hadn't really started to burn yet but I wasn't able to peal everything off. It smelled like burning plastic for a couple weeks. I sent logs to John Visconti who was my tuner at the time and he said it "looks good".

Most probably passenger side cam plate leaking. Had the same smell till I fixed that.

Don't worry about it, it's just the aggressive cam timing to remove the dip...

I was thinking the same thing. This reminds me that I need to look at mine because I think mine might be leaking. Does anyone have good in car pictures showing how to inspect it?

Grab a rag run it along the bottom of it. If it has oil you have an issue. Take it to the dealer please because not enough people have been doing this and they still haven't released a tsb. I had to prove to the dealer that it was leaking which was annoying. Took two days for them to fix it. (It's an easy fix though)

Well that was my plan.

Do you want a picture of the location? I can do that really quickly. In fact I'll do it anyway. I will edit this post with the picture in 5 mins.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/13/2uqu9yhe.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/13/he2uta8a.jpg

This is on the passenger side rear of the engine by the battery.
