iPhone only vibrates when connected via Bluetooth
I tried searching for this and couldn't find the same issue. Since I have only had the car for a few days, I am hoping that someone has already figured this out.
I have paired my iPhone 5 to my Bespoke unit in my Monogram with the Bluetooth. The hands free calling works great, absolutely no complaints there. I can play the current playlist via BT, change tracks, etc. If I am listening to music via BT, and I get a text message (or any other kind of alert/notification), the alert sound comes through the car's speakers, which is the preferred action. However, if I switch back to listening to a radio station and get an alert, the sound does NOT come through the car's speakers, and the phone only vibrates, so I do not realize that the alert has happened. Example from yesterday: My wife was not feeling well so she took a nap. After work I left to go for a drive. I put my phone into the little slot next to the cup holders and left. It connects to the BT automatically (that's good). After about 45 mins of driving and listening to the radio (FM station), the hands free feature kicks in telling me that my wife is calling me. I answer using the hands free thing and was able to have a conversation with her through the car's speakers and mic, but she asked if I had gotten her text messages. Apparently she had sent me 4-5 messages and was worried because normally we respond to each other pretty quickly. I never heard the alert sound. I tested it again later, and sure enough, if I am listening to music from my phone via BT, the alert sounds come through the car. If I switch to FM, the alert sounds do not come through the car, but they do not come through the phone either, and yes, I have the sound turned up on the phone. I considered just turning off the BT on my phone until I want to listen to music from it, but then I lose the hands free calling feature, which I want to keep. Any ideas on how to fix this situation? Am I doing something wrong, or have my settings (phone or Bespoke) messed up? Thanks in advance! |
That's odd....
I have a 10 series FRS with a Samsung Galaxy S4, I get the notification noise of everything through the cars speakers such as a FB Message, Text, Email, Etc. I usually get annoyed because I get a message probably every 2 minutes and then it cuts off the music so I leave my phone on Silent. For phone calls, my phone doesn't ring itself, the car does with its own ring tone. Check the blue tooth settings of your phone or the sound settings. One thing I noticed was that since I play music through my phone to my car, I have these audio settings and they get overridden when I have my phone synced to my car VIA bluetooth. Also if I'm playing regular FM Radio and I get a call, my head unit switches to the call mode automatically. |

What doesn't happen is the first part when listening to FM radio. I will keep playing with the settings, but I feel like I have gone through all of them already with no success. |

Have you changed the Bespoke settings to FRS settings? I don''t have that issue but was just throwing out suggestions.

I'll try adjusting more settings and playing with it some more.

Both my ford truck with sync and frs work like this with my iphone. You phone once connected via the bluetooth in the car is always connected when in the car so audio will always go through the bluetooth regardless of if you switch to fm radio, bluetooth is still connected hence why you dont hear it when listening to fm.

I found someone mention on one of the Apple support sites that after it is connected via Bluetooth to switch the output source on the iPhone to be the phone instead of the car. On the OS version I have, that is most easily done by swiping up and it is in the airplay section. This allows sounds to play through the phone, but the phone still connects through BT. I need to do some more testing with that option, but it might just work.
Of course, it's kind of a pain to have to do that every time it connects, but I guess I could just do it when I'm on a long drive or expecting an important message. |
You should just stop being a 15 year old girl and ditch the Apple and get a Droid. :)

HAHA, just yanking the chain back at ya, I really did LOL when I read your post! I have used both phones, but just prefer the iPhone. The bluetooth issue gives me a reason/excuse to drive uninterrupted, so yay! |

I actually switched to the iphone after buying my FR-S. I had owned android phones forever, and I may go back to them someday.. But I got so pissed off at the random bluetooth issues my Droid DNA was giving me in the car (no track/artist info on certain apps, sometimes I could only control overall volume with the phone rocker, etc).. I asked to borrow my wifes iphone and everything worked great consistently. At that point I was done w/ Android for now. I should note I'm using the stock Pioneer unit, not upgraded.
