2014 FRS Kickbacks
Hey,
I will try to explain the issue, but I am not good with words. So recently I bought a FRS 2014. Manual Transmission Everything so far is stock on it. I haven't installed anything. When I am shifting from any gear up or down the car has little kickbacks. As it's braking. I let my friend drive it and said its not normal. I will bring it to the dealer, but first I would like your help and thoughts about it!! |
Watch your rpms as you shift into the next gear. Depending on how fast you let out the clutch and at what point in the rev range you are, the transmission and engine rpm will sync up very harshly.

I've found this car is very hard to drive and shift smoothly. I think it has to do with the clutch pedal, which affects disengagement.
There's a thread about removing the "clutch pedal spring" where everyone reports that removing this spring makes the pedal feel more like every other car. I plan to remove this spring myself. Do a search in the DIY forum here. |

This probably is related to rev matching before I adjusted my clutch and started rev matching a little the car always seemed to lag between gears...now smooth as butter

My cousin said this to me when he first got this car. It's your shifting. Try to give it a bit of gas and release your clutch slower. Try to make your shifts as smooth as possible.

As others have said, the only solution is to work on your rev matching. Shouldn't be an issue during upshifts - the solution there is to slowly bring the engage the clutch as you slowly give it gas. Downshifting - that takes a bit more as you should learn your revs at said speed in each respective gear; it will make it easier to match as well as eliminate your jerking for the most part. As others of said, lower your pedal helps, but the fundamentals are still the same, even if you lower it and just engage the clutch after shifting, it's still going to jerk.

It's all about knowing the engagement points of the car and how to match the RPM drop on the upshift. I get that jerking issue sometimes when I drive the M3 due to the fast dropping RPMs and very tall clutch engagement, but not on my FR-S and I have not messed with any clutch adjustments.
