Magic the Gathering anyone?

Hi all.

Totally random, but does anyone play Magic the Gathering or any other games (board, cards, dice) here?

Just curious. Looking for a few chill peeps to play board games with.

A few folks talked about it earlier this year. I'd be down for a board game night!

W00t! Not too big of a fan of Cards against Humanity, but I do like a lot of the other games that are being listed!

Clipdat 04-11-2014 03:09 AM

Man, this takes me back! Seeing that Force of Nature again gives me waking nightmares XD

darkonion 04-11-2014 12:20 PM

I cube drafted for the first time last night. Cube drafting is awesome!

Ahhh... the good ol' days.

CamryDS 04-11-2014 02:33 PM

fook I'm in! I have tons of cars and would love to play.
I tossed all my old series cards, so I only have the mid recent sets (from avernis+)

If anyone wants to play I'd be down to draft.

I'd be down to draft also! I had a great experience with Cube Drafting also! Would love to do that again!

finch1750 04-11-2014 04:03 PM

Cube drafting? And massdrop usually has decent deals on MtG booster boxes fyi.

Yup. A cube is a set of 400 or so cards. It's essentially a custom set that someone builds and usually revolves around a theme. Cards are mixed and then randomly distributed 3 piles of 15 cards per a player. Then you draft!

CamryDS 04-12-2014 01:37 AM

I do it the old fashion way, either drop a bill on boxes (which isn't too bad) I'd be down though. Either that or just bring the set of card that you have and just play.

B2FiNiTY 04-12-2014 04:20 PM

dang. i still have my cards but they are just staying cool in the boxes.

started 4th edition and played all the way up till urza/6th came out.

been thinking about selling my set for awhile now. lots of dual lands, etc

Chauntalei 04-12-2014 04:30 PM

I play, but all my physical cards are super old school. I only do modern/standard stuff via duels of the planeswalkers via Steam and all that.

I'm actually looking to pick up dual lands and old cards, let me know if you decide to sell. Probably wouldn't mind picking up the whole thing if it's got stuff I need. :)

I used to play this game all the time. I miss playing and would love to get back into it if someone is talking about a game night or something.

Dual lands are definitely worth something now, too.

As for a meet-up or something... maybe we can figure something out. Either buy a booster box and draft, or if someone has a cube, we could cube draft. Great way to play, but keep costs down especially since many of us have come from different blocks and formats.

Maybe draft Theros/Theros/Theros or M14/M14/M14??

True, I think that would be cool -- but for people who don't want to buy cards. We can play standard as well, no real need to draft, though i'd be down with that.

If people want to play different sets in combination i'm okay too. I just lost all my old stuff so I'd love to see stuff like winter's orb + rack + vice =P

I like Standard, but that requires people from other formats/blocks to build decks which involves money. Draft is really the easiest. If we shop around for Theros or M14, probably could find a booster box for $90. We could be drafting for less than $10/person.

I was thinking about putting together a pauper cube with some stuff from the Return to Ravnica and Theros block.

Clipdat 04-14-2014 03:44 PM

I've always thought it was a bit tricky to do deck construction in such a short period of time. It usually takes me a number of hours to get a deck where I want it, but I suppose that's part of the draft experience - being able to construct something competitive in a short period of time.

I tend to not like the newer cards/rules too much, I stopped buying cards after Avacyn Restored. If we don't draft I'd be fine with pretty much "anything goes" type rules, since it sounds like it will be pretty casual I doubt people are going to be busting out power 9. :)

I agree, but everyone is in the same boat, right? Everyone just kind of throws their deck together in the allotted time.

I've never seen any of the Power 9 in real life... :(

True, if enough people come then yeah about 10 bucks a person is reasonable.

agreed -- if anything goes, i'm glad about that. I hate all the rules above avacyn restored, but there are nice hydras there.

Clipdat 04-14-2014 04:39 PM

Someone say Hydra?

Im in for a draft but someone prob needs to give a rules refresher. Lol

I am also in for an anything goes type deal as long as decks stay in the realm of friendly competition (which I think they all would for something like this).

No problem. There's a lot of rules clarification online at:

funny thing is that this combo can be bought for approximately 10 bucks ^_^

B2FiNiTY 04-14-2014 08:27 PM

hahah winter orb. I got a few of those somewhere. so fun to play.

My fav cheez card was living death that took all the creatures from the graveyard and put them back into the play.

darkonion 04-14-2014 08:28 PM

I actually ordered a table-size playmat last week. Can't wait for it!

Sick! I've got a single player size that I've never used and now am looking forward to using it.

Too bad no one plays D n D here. I'd love to learn and play that as well (okay maybe that is too much).

Hah I started playing in elementary school also. Let me know if you're ever looking to sell any of your old stuff, I'm trying to pick up older cards to play Legacy and Vintage. :)

darkonion 04-15-2014 12:47 AM

Six or 8 would be perfect to cube/draft. I'd even be willing to front the cash to buy a box.

darkonion 04-15-2014 05:21 PM

So, I started building a Pauper cube last night. It's mostly newer stuff. I have no idea how it is going to work, but we'll find out. If anyone has any old stuff that they would like to donate to the cube, that'd be greatly appreciated. I currently have a bunch of cards from RTR block, M14, and Theros block.

how does the cube work (never drafted with a cube)
since you mention it's a pauper cube, it's just basically all commons then?
