Next-gen Infiniti G-series to launch Spring 2013 - report

The current generation Infiniti G-series has been on the market since the G37 Coupe was launched back in 2007. Therefore, it is time for the Luxury brand of Nissan to start working on a successor. A report compiled by Inside Line has stated engineers are much further ahead. In fact, the model is due to hit dealerships in less than a year.
The news arrives following an interview with Andy Palmer, executive vice president of Nissan and Infiniti's Global Business Unit. He confirmed "the new G will arrive a year from now," which directly contradicts a previous report that said the new generation was slated for a summer 2014 release.
Infiniti G-series' chief rivals include the Mercedes C-Class and BMW 3-series. The latter of which has already been launched with a new generation model and may have caused Infiniti to accelerate their plans.
Infiniti has entered into an engine sharing agreement with Mercedes-Benz that could see the G-series share some of the same units that power the new C-Class. There are even rumors that the competing models will also ride on the same platform.
Should the rumors turn out to be true, we should expect the first model of the G-series to debut in Detroit in January next year.

Sucks that it will probably be the G Sedan first.

They lost me on the G37. So I hope they do a better job on the next G.

They lost me at the V35 skyline, but i have been hearing positive rumours about the V37. Its gonna be around 120kg lighter than the G37 and feature a newly developed VQ30 with DI and a turbo in top trim.

Hope they come true because its been all down hill since the R34 and i would never upgrade my R33 GTS-T for a fat NA pig that the V35 and V36 are! :(

I'm actually more interested in the IPL G, they said they would step it up to compete the M3 and C63.

Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge prototype tackles Spa-Francorchamps [video]

Has a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 with 568 PS (417 kW)

Infiniti has released a new promotional video of the Q50 Eau Rouge prototype at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

In the clip, Sebastian Vettel is pitted against Parker Kligerman and Nine-Ball World Champion snooker player Pan Xiaoting to see who can travel the longest distance in the allotted time. Unsurprisingly, Vettel was given the most time and 'won' the race.

According to Vettel, “Even though it was difficult to get a proper feel for the car’s performance due to the wet track, the engineering team have made definite improvements to the car in the areas of steering and suspension since I first drove it earlier in the year." He went on to say "All in all it was an interesting day and we had fun. It was a privilege to be given the task of driving the Q50 Eau Rouge on one of the most demanding corners in the world.”

While a production version is basically a given at this point, Infiniti says the model is "currently under evaluation."

Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge Project Reportedly Not Dead

Quote:

We were saddened when Infiniti announced that the GT-R powered Q50 Eau Rouge project was scrapped, but apparently, there maybe some hope for it.

The reason why the Japanese car manufacturer abandoned the project – at that time – was due to costs, as the performance-oriented model would’ve been too expensive to build. Moreover, the all-wheel-drive, twin-turbocharged automobile’s potential pricey sticker wouldn’t have coped with the performance per buck offered by its rivals – and BMW’s and Mercedes’ offerings don’t come cheap.

Still, Auto Express reports that the project could be revived sometime in the future, as president of Infiniti Roland Kruger stated at a special event marking the Q30 to roll off the line:

“Every premium brand that has performance aspirations needs a halo model - a model at the forefront that symbolises power and performance. But we need to concentrate on cars like Q30. That said, next year we will launch the Q60 with a powerful 3.0-litre twin-turbo engine. That car will definitely be very special.”

So, it seems that it will take some time before infiniti will let loose a German-stomping, performance automobile, taking “baby steps” in the process with a the new 3.0-litre engine on its new Q60 model, as Kruger continued:

“We see the next few years as a grade walk,” he said. “We are still a very small company compared to our competitors and we need to introduce the right grade walk.”

Mind you, the “grade walk” will still probably spawn a fairly potent automobile, while the full-on Eau Rouge model – if there will ever be one – will come only after Infiniti will leave its distinctive mark in the segment. No need in making it if no one will buy it, right?

2016 Infiniti Q50 Launches With New 400 hp, Twin-Turbo V6

Quote:

For the 2016 model year, Infiniti has just unveiled a wrath of updates for the Q50 sports sedan. Most notably, the car is now available with a brand new 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, joining a couple of other refreshed turbo engines alongside further mechanical improvements.

The new twin-turbo V6 tops out the Infiniti Q50 range of engines and has been designed to perfectly combine both impressive power and torque with excellent fuel economy. When spinning at 6400 rpm, the powerplant churns out 400 hp with 350 lb-ft of torque being on tap between 1600 and 5200 rpm. With the new engine, Infiniti claims to have the best power-to-efficiency ratio in its class. With that being said, specific mpg figures haven't been released.

One of the crucial elements of the new twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 is its implementation of a bespoke turbine speed sensor and overhauled turbine blade design. This allows for a 10 per cent increase in turbine speeds, with it now capable of spinning at a crazy 220,000 rpm. To ensure optimal throttle response, Infiniti has also focused heavily on maximising the valve timing thanks to the utilisation of a small electric motor mounted to the valve timing system.

Interestingly, this engine is also available in a detuned variant where it produces 300 hp at 6400 rpm and 295 lb-ft between 1600 and 5200 rpm. Elsewhere in the range, the 2016 Infiniti Q50 is available with a 2.0-lite turbocharged four-cylinder with 208 hp and 258 lb-ft on tap while an entry-level 2.2-litre diesel is also offered with 168 hp and 295 lb-ft.

Beyond the new 3.0-litre V6, the hybrid powertrain is certainly the most impressive. It combines a 3.5-litre aluminium V6 with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery making for a total of 360 hp and 457 lb-ft. Two very impressive figures indeed.

Beyond the inclusion of a number of different engines, the 2016 Infiniti Q50 also debuts with the automaker's second-generation Direct Adaptive Steering system. It has been joined with Infiniti's Dynamic Digital Suspension which offers a selection of different driving modes including a 'Personal' option, which allows the driver to tweak the steering, engine and suspension characteristics to their tastes. Other options include Standard, Snow, Eco, Sport and for the first time, Sport+.

Discussing the car, Infiniti vice president of product strategy Francois Bancon said “The new Infiniti Q50 takes the core elements that have driven its global appeal to date, and now we areoffering a number of new and stand-out technologies. With the upgraded Q50, we are furthering Infiniti’s position on innovation.”

Sales of the 2016 Infiniti Q50 will commence next year following its reveal at next month's Detroit Auto Show.
