USDM (flat) Style Clear Side Markers

So I was just trolling eBay...again, and I found these. I have the Helix "JDM" style and this makes me jelly. Especially since I took my driver side off this morning to reseal.

I can see my stock one flickering as I ride by guard rails on the highway.

You fixed yours yet? I want the Helix JDM Dark Smoke ones.

Ideally I'd like to just delete the friggin thing but that's probably more labor intensive than it's worth.

Oh, that's what you were talking about?! I thought you were talking about the reverse light housing. That thing rattles in the back which causes it the "flicker" with headlights behind it. My side is flickering though. The side got water in it and messed the bulb up. I'm sealing it right now actually, and I should have a spare bulb somewhere.

Mine keeps leaking water too , tried sealing still have water in it dam things !

Hmm interesting. I have black ones but they're the kind that stick out a little hump.

Mooseknuckle44 04-10-2014 11:39 AM

Yeah that's the one I meant. I actually didn't notice anything wrong with your reverse light.

My left front fender light flickers. Mine shouldn't have water in it unless it's from being washed. I don't drive mine in the rain if I can avoid it.

Off topic- My Spider 2's should be here tomorrow. Giggidy.

Not really. Take the bulb out, leave the connector, then paint and clear coat.

I posted a thread awhile ago about finding these on eBay as well - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ght=Ammunition

So far there doesn't seem to be much information about them (or even a brand associated with producing them) other than them coming from China.

If anyone feels like biting the bullet and getting a pair of these, I'd love for someone else to be the guinea pig and fill us in on what kind of quality these are - I've been wanting flat clear side markers since the day I picked up my FR-S!

I was feeling frisky so I bit, I'll post impressions probably by next Wed when they arrive. Maybe a video too. I never wanted the ones that stuck out and couldn't bring myself to pay ~$100 for the others. Hopefully these are great, they seemed more silver'ish too and I have a 10 series.

^ Look forward to hearing your reply, I have the same thoughts on the raised JDM ones.

Bump for updates on the quality and if water tight

nekio 04-13-2014 06:18 PM

I haven't received mines yet.

My experience with both.

I bought the helix ones (On 3/20/13 on eBay for $69.99) and bought the flat ones after they broke (Bought on 1/27/14 also on eBay for $52.24).

The clip of my left helix ones broke off while on the freeway at night (just imagine the damage I got driving over 60mph with dangling side marker wires all out). My other side broke off months before this cause my brother when down a dip the wrong way. I used electrical tape to tape them up while waiting to order replacements.

I had no water issues from rain, powerwash, and carwash in both kinds (when my helix ones weren't broken).

I believe the helix ones were made in Taiwan (I could be wrong though) and the flat ones are from China.

I like how the flat ones look more reflective and more flush then the helix JDM ones. I also tried to pull the clip and seems sturdier.

What I did like about helix ones was the "JDMness" and it really did look nice on my car too.

I will not recommend helix for lowered cars who go though dips and scrap a lot. I scrape so very much! I remember the helix ones being a bit wobbly after a while from my horrible driveway and daily dips/bumps.

2.5 month later. Still tight on my bumper. BTW, it looks much better in person.
