Summer track days sign up for PIR & ORP for beginners and up

It's track season!
:burnrubber:

Summer track days sign up for Portland International Raceway and Oregon Raceway Park for beginners and up.

I'd like to get a group of us together to do a track day at Portland International Raceway. It's cheap, a lot of fun, and very safe. If you have never done it before you'll need to do the 'Ground School' which is a classroom session the night before the track day in which you'd join everyone that's already been through the school training. Below is the info on both the beginner ground school and the HPDE (High Performace Drivers Education) track day. If you sign up please post it so I can add you to the list of us that are going. Helmet rentals available--$10

-> June 26(school)/27(HPDE)

5. Mike Yochim (Forum name?)
etc...

-> July 25th (school & HPDE) at Oregon Raceway Park (ORP). I rented a room for the night before so we can drive out the night prior and get decent nights rest. I got it at Super 8 The Dalles at 609 Cherry Heights Rd, The Dalles, OR. If anyone would like to share the room with me you are welcome to. The room has 2 queen beds and cost me $100 and I'd like to split the cost evenly based on how many are sleeping in the room. Rollaway beds can be rented for $10 if we get a large group in a room.

-> September 8th (school & HPDE) at Oregon Raceway Park (ORP) only $125!!!! I'll grab a hotel room for the night before if anyone wants to chip in to share the room. I'll get a room with 2 queen beds and rollaway beds can be rented for $10 if we get a large group in a room. The room will cost me about $100 so however many people stay in the room should try to evenly split the room bill.

For those of you that think you can't race your car because you didn't buy any cool parts... that's a load of crap. Our cars off the dealer showroom are track ready cars so don't worry about it. I've seen old beater cars out there slower than snot. The point is to have a good time. All you really 'need' is to make sure you're car is in good working order with a full gas tank, which shouldn't be too hard considering our cars aren't even a year old yet! Certain things are nice to have but not necessary, so feel free to ask questions.

A little synopsis on doing the track day is that depending on how many people register we will get around 4 sessions of around 30 minutes of track time so a person can race their car on the track for 2 hours total for around $180 (non-beginners) $220 (beginners.

Also... beginners that do the Ground School will have an instructor assigned to sit with you in your passenger seat at the track day to coach you when you drive around the track so that's another reason you'll be fine and have tons of fun!

Here's a great guide to track prepping your vehicle, which like I said isn't necessary if you track the car occasionally. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25485

If you have any questions please post them and they will be answered.

Looks like I'm going to miss the April 27th day unless a miracle happens tomorrow. JDL sent me an Overpipe that doesn't mate to the stock header and that will cause me to cancel my alignment which snowballs into canceling my trip up to Drift Office for a track tune and he leaves the country for a month on Tuesday. I've just been bitch slapped by Mr. Murphy and his stupid law.

On a positive note the JDL 3" pieces look really good...

I'll be at all 3 after April and am planning on a few trips to ORP and the Ridge.

Decay107 04-09-2014 03:44 AM

How do they determine who needs to go to ground school and have an instructor?

FRSfan111 04-09-2014 04:30 AM

Hmm April 25th is my birthday..it's a sign.

glamcem 04-09-2014 05:54 AM

I might be in for this if I can finish installing everything :)

If you've never done a track day you will need ground school. Everyone in HPDE gets an instructor for at least the first session so they know you know what you're doing. Safety first. ;)

Once you pick the other track days let me know and I'll post it up unless you'd like to. Sorry to hear about your piece not fitting. JDL usually needs a couple tries before stuff fits, but once it does it's golden. My loud exhaust will sound like a whisper next to your's once it's finished! ;)

thehapaone 04-09-2014 01:38 PM

I'll def be hitting some of these up once I have money again

NASA is putting on an event 4/18 (next Friday). Price is $200. Looks like a lot of track time. Experienced only, as they will not have instructors.

Quote:

Howdy folks, sorry it took so long but we have a GREEN FLAG! We are close enough that we are going to go ahead and run the event. The registration page link is here:

http://www.nasaproracing.com/event/1826

The special price of $199 will be good until Friday the 11th then there will be an additional late fee added. When registering please select Advanced, Intermediate, or Test n Tune (race cars) and we will make adjustments as required. This event is open to any driver with previous track experience so please share it!

The schedule will be posted shortly on the reg. page and facebook event page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1436254059954475/

Technical Inspection: I’ve decided to attempt a trial program. Self Tech. We’re all adults and experienced track nuts so here is what I am proposing. Print off the appropriate tech form (HPDE or Competition) and go over your car yourself. Fill out the form and bring it to the event. If you have a race car and current annual you will not need an inspection. I WILL have 2014 tech stickers available for race cars that have had their annual inspection performed.

Forms:

HPDE: http://www.nasanorthwest.com/wp-cont..._tech_form.pdf

Race: http://www.nasanorthwest.com/wp-cont...ction_form.pdf

As always, call or email with questions. I usually try to answer as quick as possible! FAQ’s will go on the Facebook event page as well.

stockysnail 04-21-2014 01:17 PM

Come on people. Plan out your summer and register for a track day or three. You aren't charged until the day of the event and can cancel up to a couple days before so there's no risk in registering early. There is risk if registering close to the event as it may sell out, which happens at all the summer events.

BRZPDX 04-21-2014 01:56 PM

Not sure if my car will be ready this season. Too much expenses right now, and I know for a fact my car is not track ready yet.
Slim fan
Oil Cooler custom mounting
rear axle
vented hood/holes on front bumper
slim crash beam replacement
AFR/EGT gauge
Brake pads
Brake fluid

These are minimum mods I will need before any track day or most likely the car will be towed back to PRE after every track event.

jeepmor 04-22-2014 04:11 AM

Is there an alternate training session for noobies. I work a swing shift so if I attend a night class, I pay that money, and lose my income for the night.

Might be worth it, but figured I'd ask in here before making a bunch of phone calls or surfing around looking for an answer.

As far as I know the only training class is the one the night before the track day. I would email the lady about it. Her info is on the website for signing up for the track day.

stockysnail 04-28-2014 03:48 PM

Bump!

stockysnail 04-29-2014 03:21 AM

I've talked to a lot of people saying they want to track their car. Here's your chance! Don't let fun and learning how to drive pass you by.

stockysnail 05-06-2014 07:27 PM

I should be even faster now that I painted my brake calipers red!

Let's see how long they stay red with all that heat you'll be producing going into the chicane now that you should be hitting mid 120s at the braking point :burnrubber:

FWIW I saw my rotor temps peak somewhere between 1050 and 1200 degrees at my last track day on stock power, what's the paint rated to?

Looks like it says up to 980. I imagine it will be close but the calipers aren't sitting on the rotors so shouldn't be as hot as the rotors.

digital_assassin 05-07-2014 12:33 PM

I'm registered for the next 3 events. Going to register for the ORP event in July as well.

Decay107 05-07-2014 01:50 PM

Getting corner balanced next week and sold my old exhaust and Prius tires for some extra cash, should be able to make the majority of these.

I'll sign up once my alignment is done next week.

thehapaone 05-07-2014 03:31 PM

I'll probably be holding off till the ORP event financially I think I should save a little money

Is the ORP event you're talking about the July 29th HookedOnDriving.com event that costs $325? Seems a little expensive compared to $180 for PIR. Plus I'd need a hotel room. I definitely can't spend that much but wish I could go.

digital_assassin 05-07-2014 10:39 PM

Team Continental ORP event

stockysnail 05-11-2014 07:58 PM

Added the Oregon Raceway Park track day to the original post. If someone registers for it let me know and I'll add you to the list.

The July 25th event at Oregon Raceway Park is through Team Continental (membership not required)
The link to register ($205) is here.

stockysnail 05-12-2014 12:55 PM

Added @Decay107 Doug to the July 25th confirmed registered list at Oregon Raceway Park and myself. Perhaps everyone that goes could all share a room for the night in The Dalles to save money?

stockysnail 05-18-2014 09:59 PM

Added @Sportington to the list of track day registered people. :)

stockysnail 05-18-2014 10:04 PM

Added Andrew Belfatto as he's registered on June 27th, but not sure if he's on the forum. If someone knows I can add his forum name.
