I've learned to live with minor scuffs on my car. It's not worth it fix/repaint every time it gets damage. That money is better spent on mods!

IF you're really OCD about it, I'd get the carbon diffuser from APR or Seibon. Does anyone know if its a complete replacement or an overlay?

Have you tried Carpro Dlux? It supposedly puts a glasslike film over the plastic trim.

Agreed. Honestly OP, this part on the bumper is very vulnerable to scratching, and things will appear over time. Mine is only 6 months old, and I have a few scratches that I don't know how it got there. It's probably because I use the trunk everyday.

Go with the JDM TRD rear bumper lip. It basically covers up all that pattern nonsense. Might require a larger muffler or quad tips to really set it off though.

I had the same problem.

That plastic is the soapy kind that paint, bumper stickers, and vinyl wrap will not adhere to.

My solution was carbon fiber diffuser cover, and even that wouldnt stick with silicone, until I used 2 full large tubes of hi-temp gasket silicone,clamps and heat for 24 hrs.

I have not. I tried Adams VRT, Chemical Guys Silk Shine, and Chemical Guys G6 Hyper Coat High Gloss protectant becuse those are what I had on hand at the time. The Carpro Dlux looks like a good product but I think its the same type of product at least it's shown to do the exact same thing the above 3 do. Definitely a product I will keep in mind since I already have 3 similar products I think I will hold off for now. Thanks for the info!

Thank you for all the responses guys! It is in fact a fairly deep scratch about the width of a pencil eraser, which of course screwed up the texturing. I haven't cleaned it up because I still getting an estimate from the offenders(lol) insurance. However, I've already had it appraised on my on my own (originally trying to do the guy a favor by avoiding insurance). The appraiser took two seconds and said, "oh, yeah we'd have to replace the whole bumper, it'll be like a grand". The official estimate from them was $870.

Honestly I'm a little ocd on this one only because I didn't cause the damage, just urks me. But in reality like you guys said that part is VERY susceptible to damage. To be honest I'm more afraid of them replacing my bumper then the same thing happening again in a parking lot or something, I mean the guy was literally going 0.000001 miles per hour when he bumped me.

The front runner so far in the OEM style Seibon because I have the TRD exhaust. I checked out @kanundrum quad style one and it looks pretty sick, the oem style one should be a little more low key since it only covers the so called diffuser area. Vinyl and plasti dip are also good ideas but I'm thinking that damn texture would need to be sanded off. Once I clean it up I suppose I'll have a better idea if I can deal with it or not... that money could definitely be spent on better stuff.

That scares me a bit! I'm pretty sure the Seibon one is attached with 3M tape. I read on one blog they decided to put in a few rivets as well. I'm going to email Seibon and see if they can send the install notes to get an idea.

Seibon recommends hi temp red (iron ixode I believe) silicone. I found that the hi temp gasket silicone had more adhesion.

If you use lots, rivets aren't required.

I track my FRS alot, hot weather, cold weather and my Seibon cover is solid.

Do you happen to have any pics posted of the diffuser? I'm trying to decide if I should pull the trigger on it. I got a quote for $520 installed which is a great deal but at the same time still a lot of money that could go to more performance related gear... The check I got from his insurance is less than the original quote at $665. Ugh decisions decisions

Sorry, no pics. But it looks gorgeous compared to the soapy plastic part. The Seibon looks shiny, deep 3-d, with black gold and silver hues depending on the light.

It was a no brainer for me as the scratch in the plastic devalued the car. The toyota replacement part was cheaper, but as the plastic and bumper were one piece it required painting to match the car. With the insurance company recommended body shop bill the total ($ 1700 !) was double than the Seibon and install. The insurance adjuster jumped at the chance to save the insurance co. money.

Ok no worries, thank you for all your info. That quote is crazy! Mine came out pretty low at less than $700 direct from the insurance and less then $900 from a third party. But they said there was little chance there was damage behind the bumper because it was such a slow bump. I've cleaned it up for now to see if I can live with it, being a daily driver it's bound to get a little beat up :cry: If not I'll probably go with the Seibon after a few other mods... My front bumper (the lighter black, textured part on the BRZ bumper) has two holes in it that were drilled by the dealership. Pisses me off, and I can't think of a good way to fix it other than to cover it up lol.
