Dealer Fees
I just put a deposit down on a GBS premium MT and the dealer sent me some information on the car. He has down that the car and some accessories is $25,626 + $770 transportation + $348 "dealer fee" + TTL. Does this sound right for people ordering this car, or should there not even be a dealer fee associated with this?

The answer awaits you, if you seek it out.

I know there are several people on here that got charged some fees. When you put your deposit down did you get a final price? My price was $25,495+ttl which was about $1700 and the destination charge of $770.

Dealer fees usually vary by state and by dealership. Some dealers charge $99, some $199, and I've even see $499. It is supposed to be for the paperwork of processing your sale and dealing with the state for tax and tags, but in reality it's mostly profit for the dealership.
In some (most?) states, it's not required by law (and they tell you that), but if they charge it to one customer, they have to charge it to all customers. The usual way to get around that fee is to ask the dealer to discount the price of the car by the amount of that fee. I have a hard time believing that would work for early BRZs. |
In my experience you can usually negotiate the document/processing fees. But I don't know when you have a limited car that has a high demand. But it is worth a shot. $348 seems excessive. Most dealers in Minnesota typically charge a $75 doc fee from what I have seen, but did not check on the Subaru BRZ...

Yeah that's somewhat up there for a doc fee
Congrats on going with GBS though! The rare unicorn of the BRZ colors |
Most dealers in Florida are $299-$750 with ~450-500 being most common.

$348 isnt so bad. could be worse. plus they arent trying to hose you with any add-ons so you might just have to bite the bullet on it.

BRZ is different though... Dealers have you and they know it... I still think you should be able to negotiate that lower or get some free oil changes out of the deal. |
The bill of sale or pre-order should have everything broken out:
MSRP TT&L Delivery Fee Doc Fee (varies by state... check out this link for more details: http://blog.truecar.com/2011/07/26/w...s-the-doc-fee/) Hope that helps! Anything beyond what is stated above I would question and research. |
ok so they are charging you "dealer fees"
ask them to DEFINE that fee. what consists in it. and such. I'm sure your concern will vanish after they go into details about that fees. cuz every other fees is self-explanatory. |
Just ask them if it can be reduced. My dealer had a $249.00 doc fee. Got it down to $100.00 just by asking. Getting car @ MSRP.

I was nervous bc I didn't negotiate the doc fee when ordering. Turns out they only charged $55!
