The dealership scratched my car.
 

So I've got about a half inch scratch in my month old car. It's through the paint. I'll grab a picture of it later. It came back from the dealership after they fixed some hoses they mixed up while doing the recall replacement of my fuel pump. They said I can't prove they scratched it so it sounds like I'm pretty much screwed. Is there anything easy I can do to make it less noticeable?

3. DAB touch up paint into scratch
4. dry
5. wet sand
6. polish
7. looks good!

Where would I get touch up paint in this aquamarine color? The dealership? What about the clear coat that's gonna come off?

when you wetsand or polish, you're removing clearcoat.
your touch up paint should include clearcoat in it, and it should be mixed together.

look at it this way. you're not removing the scratch, you're filling it in and polishing the fill and the surrounding area to blend it in.

If you're ever taking your car in for service beyond a simple oil change, make sure to take a quick walk-around video of your car and upload it to YouTube. That time stamps it and can be used in court (assuming you showing them video of your car at the dealership in clean condition isn't enough for them to fix it). If the car comes back clean, delete the video. If not, you have evidence admissible in court.

That doesn't help your current problem, but here are a few products that should work. The Doctor Color Chip website seems to be down, but http://www.langka.com/ was recommended by a professional detailer on here.

Dr. Colorchip or Langka and a toothpick are solid choices. I wouldn't recommend wetsanding to someone who doesn't have experience with it. Last thing you need is turning this scratch thread into a I burnt through my clearcoat and need a repaint thread.

Thanks a lot, I've never had to deal with many body issues since my other car is so old it's pretty much scratches on scratches. I wet sanded my wheels on the supra but that was when I was doing a complete refinish. Not nearly as delicate as sanding on the paint on a new car.

In the langka kit it doesn't seem like you really choose a color. So it's literally just a fill and cover kit? I'm guessing to keep the scratch from chipping?

Edit: I'm gonna go with Dr colorchip as soon as I can get the website to work or give them a call. I like that scratchwizard kind of says they are the best by claiming to fix scratches better than them.

Hopefully that image loads. The smaller lighter scratch underneath came with it. The dots behind it are just from it being rained on and dirty today.

Look up how to fix this on youtube...lots of vids Gary Dean did a good one as do alot of others.

Wow, very helpful videos. The asphalt gray one he detailed makes me really want some of that opticoat.

Im thinking about picking up some of his diamond shield...its cheaper then opticoat as in it can do a few vehicles...neither will prevent this from happening though.

At $100 it's quite a bit more than opti-coat. You get 20 cc's in an opti-coat tube, and can do roughly 3 cars of our size, 2 if you also do the wheels. If you use an entire tube you used way too much.

I just recommend opti-coat since it also has years of testing behind it and diamond shield being a glass coating means it's durability isn't as long. You may get a slightly better shine but that is in the eye of the beholder.

you can do 4 cars with the diamond shield from what gary was saying in his how to....but either way. Its about the same price if thats the case.

Tried them both, Langka doesn't work nearly as well as Dr. ColorChip! Dr. ColorChip has a your exact color but thinned out compared to the molasses in the OEM touch up paint tube. You just smear off the excess then buff it with the thinner and cloth until it's flat again. Takes practice but you'll get the hang of it. Langka is the same idea except with the OEM touchup paint and no smearing.

Good news everyone! I gave them a shitty survey rating and their customer satisfaction guy called and offered to fix the scratch. I even got a $25 Starbucks gift card.

I got my touchup paint from them, as well as a base coat/clear coat in aerosol can. I had to respray the bottom portion of my bumper due to a very high curb while parking, it matches very well.

I guess when it rains it pours, I got a massive door ding this weekend. Right in the middle of the passenger side door. I had paint transfer on her door too. I'm really hoping it gets put on her insurance.

I'll get a picture of it tomorrow but pretty much imagine Bruce Lee was opening the car door with a 6 inch punch. The dent just radiates from the center of the door out.
