Question for parents...
 

How many of you let your little ones ride in the front seat of your FR-S/BRZ? Might take a 3 or 4 day road trip in a couple weeks with my four year old. She loves cruising in the FR-S and I thought she'd enjoy riding up front for a change...in a harnessed, high-back car seat of course, with the seat all the way back. It seems like from what I've read, that half of people say absolutely not until the child is 13 years old, and then the other half that think the first group are overreactors and it's not a big deal. What do you guys think?

Just remove the head rest from the passenger seat to give her a better view. The air bag would decapitate her if it went off. Why risk it? Besides, it's illegal.

Thanks for the input, never thought about taking off the headrest. However, it's not illegal as long as they are in the proper booster/car seat for their size.

I think you can turn the passenger seat airbag off if you want.

What's the big deal about not letting kids ride up front? The airbag won't decapitate them if they're far enough back and properly belted in (either booster seat or seat belt adjuster or what have you). For pete's sake, WE rode up front properly belted in well before teenage years and how many of us were killed by the safety systems? Yeah, exactly: statistically insignificant.

If they're big enough for a booster seat instead of a baby seat, then they're probably big enough to sit up front with the proper precautions taken.

Used to be you could use a key to disable the front passenger airbag in cars. Not sure why those were taken out. Seems pretty stupid to me.

I wish we could more easily disable the passenger airbags for situations like this. I understand there's danger putting a child in the front seat, but it seems largely due to the airbags. I don't believe there's any difference in the restraints. Are there any other real reasons why it's so dangerous or is it just one of those things where paranoia precedes logic and it was put into law?

In the BRZ, I wish I could put my daughter's rear facing seat (or at least her forward facing booster seat in the next 6 months or so) up front with the passenger airbags disabled. I don't see how that would be any different or more dangerous than the rear seat.

Maybe it's simply because there's an airbag there with an explosive device inside it, and even with it disabled there's no real guarantee it won't trigger.
