beat me to it

Damn I love that engine sound. It's getting faster and faster!
|
|
Love it!
On a side note: Am I the only one watching this and calling each up shift, down shift, apex, and clipping point? To much Gran Turismo |
Inspirational. Whats up with the TRD pistons and rods, its only 230hp? Are they even higher compression for racing gas?

Theres that Supra guy w/ the NA 10 series that had Crawford do rods and pistons on his block with the BPBs along with maybe some valve train work. He's on pump. With race gas on a race engine, Toyota was doing 240ps on a 1.6L. |
4.8 final gear! Very aggressive!

There's a lot more work to that engine than most people think. ;) Estimated $230k went into this development and build. More is still being spent to extract more. :) Quote:

Personally, I was only talking about the small block and not commenting on intake/exhaust. Do you think perhaps they reblueprinted the whole engine, race ported the heads, enlarged the valves, fully balanced all the internals and micro polished the journals? I really don't see them making only 230ps with a full race blueprint. That should be quite doable with new pistons, rods, cams full intake and exhaust tuned on a Motec without anything truly exotic. A Porsche NA Boxer can do 125hp/L on a streetable car with almost 4 Liters of displacement (if it doesn't catch fire, heh). I know what a Cosworth EJ can put out so I really don't think TRD went to any crazy lengths for 230ps. I only mention this since it's likely Toyota's own 5 year old F1 V10 is still more capable and spohisticated than anything Cosworth currently has put out since they came back to F1. I'm sure Toyota could put together a race ready 2L NA hitting close to or around 300hp if they wanted to go all out. |

Does any of the development for this specific car go to the end user in form of products etc?
|
If they know what is F*$king good for them they better. I don't see the STI going around the track doing all this testing.
If scion/Toyota release a more race/street version I am sure all this testing will trickle down. And then I buy one... |

I wouldn't be surprised if we end up seeing rods , pistons , etc.. offered like they offered with the ae86 |
