Head Unit not turning off.

Hey guys just a couple of hours ago I got my windows tinted and I have a hard time thinking this is related but my head unit will no longer shut off with the engine. I tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting but the head unit immediately powers up and I can get it to shut off so I can't remote lock anymore either.

Right now I'm keeping the batt disconnected

Thanks for any ideas!

Which head unit do you have?

Dizzywithadame 04-07-2014 10:20 PM

Bespoke with aha. I have a 2014 monogram

Did your car come with the aha installed or was installed after purchase?
It could be a lot of things.
If sounds like bad wiring. Maybe an incorrect harness was used when adding aha?
I'm not sure but I'd take it back to the dealer if possible since they did the upgrade.

Bespoke HU come with the monograms from factory right? Unless your tint guys touched the electrical system which I highly doubt, then it might be like ZOMFGAARON said bad wiring. It just happened to occur after you got the tint. Just take it back to the dealer.

Is this a problem that just started?
Since the car is so new, I'd just take it back to the dealer. Did the tint shop do anything else or did you have any other work done on the car recently?

Head unit wise it's completely stock, I just got the car two weeks ago. However I did add Spyder tail lights, valenti tail light bar, and tomioka racing lightweight battery. Maybe somehow that did something but it's had them a week with now issue since. Anyway thanks for the help I'll take it to the dealer in the morning

It's posible somewhere a wire was crossed that should only see ignition voltage (12v only when the ignition is on). If this was crossed with a 12v constant, it could be running through the entire wire harness to anything connected to it, or activating a relay that's normally off.

edit-
even though you did nothing behind the dash, the wire harness runs throughout the entire car like a highway system. A bad connection anywhere could affect other parts of the car.

Yeah I would say reverse the steps of your battery/light install to see if any wires are different from stock or just let the dealership deal with it hahaha

Hmm alright, I'll just disconnect the taillight bar bc that one did give me some issue and see if that helps until I get to the dealer. I'm no electrician and that's probably why I'm here lol thanks guys I'll report later tonight if anything changes

Update for you guys in case interested. Well it did have to deal with the tint guys!! My girlfriend was complaining about something dripping on her foot after we got the car back from tinting. I didn't really connect it until just now when my HU turns off like normal. I think it all dried up whatever they sprayed on my windshield. Anyways thanks for the help guys

Ahhh, the cleaner or whatever it was might have been conductive enough to short something to trip the head unit on.

Wait, did they tint your windshield?

ZOMFGAARON 04-08-2014 10:56 PM

That is crazy they should if covered your car to stop from overspray. I'd contact the tint place and let then know in case if any future issues

Dizzywithadame 04-09-2014 04:06 AM

Yeah they protected my windshield with some Llumar branded clear film that supposedly blocks 85% of UV waves. It's pretty cool (pardon the pun) I can't even tell it's there. But anyway, all today the car is perfectly fine now so I'm pretty sure that was the culprit. And great point @ZOMFGAARON I'll be sure to tell them, you'd think they'd put some towels or something on the dash. Anywho thanks for the help guys
