Okay so a local Oilmasters told me that they have some flowmasters that would be good for a deeper more aggressive exhaust. They told me between 190-200 for the system. I asked about the exhaust tips and they said they would keep the stock tips but for $40 more per tip they can put some stainless steel tips on. Any thoughts?

Will they make it from stainless or just regular steel tubing? IIRC the TRD canister runs about$1100...

Weld on some cherry bombs.

I am guessing at that price it is just an axle back type deal, and not a full cat-back?
Find out what type of metal they are using, if really cheap piping is used it rust pretty quick and be very heavy.
If they are using quality materials and the shop is reputable, the price seems fair to me for what you get.

I'll go check now :) if you can think of anything else to look for let me know

Crush-bent piping FTW!!!

I would also inquire if it's mandrel bent (doubtful) otherwise you're wasting pipe diameter.

I had a Magnaflow system on my previous car, made in a shop by a guy who was an excellent welder. $150 for the system plus $10 for a tip. It lasted the full 6 years I owned the car and was probably my favorite mod. I wasn't sure what to expect because it looked like kind of a shady place, but man was it one of the nicest sounding exhausts I've ever gotten.

FWIW, it was a full catback system, not an axelback. It was for a MS3 as well, and if anyone has seen their exhaust, you'd know what a pain in the ass it was to make that pipe. Still, great quality.

The price seems fair (dual exhaust after all), have you seen any of their other work for comparison?

That seems like a fair price for what you are getting, but I don't know how good flowmasters will sound on the FA20

I think you'd be better off buying a Berk exhaust or one of the other kits from a vendor on here FWIW

Make sure to ask what kind of material they will use

It's a cross flow flowmaster. The tip is stainless steel and they also use aluminum with a rust preventative coating

Would a magnaflow be better suited for the FR-S

when I think of flow masters / magnaflow I think v8 / v6. just me though. price is dead on for custom exhaust

Diode Dynamics 04-07-2014 04:42 PM

My biggest concern is that you'll get more of a tin-sounding exhaust note, than the deep note you're looking for.

They make good deletes, but I'm not a fan of their chambered axle-backs. It's all personal preference of course

I'm definitely wanting a deeper sound.. I'm trying to find something that they would have local so I don't have to wait on shipping
