WTF is up with all the salvaged cars?!

Lol, seriously? I frequent craigslist and ebay to keep track of what the value of my car is. I've noticed recently, that I have to go through 4 or 5 posts before I find a car that doesn't have a "salvaged title." What is going on? Are these cars really being wrecked THAT much!? I know about "the curse" but geez! You buy a car that you KNOW is tail happy, you should know when to take it easy! I know there are exceptions, but this is far above the exception.

Anyone else notice this? I have a funny feeling this car is going to turn out like the Evo, or S2000, having to search for MONTHS to find one that isn't salvaged or beaten to hell.

That's kind of depressing...

I think it has to do with this car inspiring a ton of confidence in drivers+ clueless people buying this car thinking the tires are A-OKAY for any and all types of weather conditions.
I've seen so,so many posts talking about how they were driving in their twin...On stock tires...In the snow.

Yup. It was odd. I was seeing mid-teens on a lot of FS price for low mileage cars. What a bummer! I literally found one car today that wasn't salvaged on CL. It was weird.

Tailhappy nice car that isn't crazy expensive.

Lemme paint some pictures...

A:
"My parents just bought me a BRZ/FR-S and I love it!"
*3 weeks later*
"It got squirrely and I wrecked it. Freaked my parents out, but they are just happy I am ok"
*1 week later*
"Insurance check came in...wonder what car I should get now...thinking a BMW 1 series or that new Mustang"

B:
"This is the first new car I ever had...and I am 21 years old"
*6 months later*
"I was showing off a bit and I wrecked my baby..."
*1 Week later*
"Insurance is ****ing me and and they are only giving me 70% what my car is worth" (worth is what they are basing what they owed on their car...which was of course financed at a high interest rate for 6+ years...oh and they where upside down on their trade in too...as per tradition)

C:
"Check out my new build"
"It really fast"
"Its totaled now...I am going to take off all my exotic upgrades and re-build it"
"Insurance rebuilds and sells it"

I have seen all these scenarios played out on this forum a few times.

Long story short...
*Rich kids who don't appreciate their stuff...get this car...
*Young people who get this car because its the first big nice item they ever got for themselves...sadly...they feel the need to show off and tear it up.
*This is a tuner car...tuner cars get wrecked...

One other thing...if airbag gets blown...often they car will be considered totaled.

It's people driving on stocks in winter or rain. And they think 154hp stock to wheel won't kill you

conspiracy: car companies deliberately making cars that are much more easy to total in light of being "safer"

think about it. a totaled car to a car company means someone is going to buy ANOTHER brand new car from them. and no one would question it, because it is supposedly safer.

also, I don't think it has anything to do with the drivers, I think it has to do with this cars being crunchy and easily totaled.

This.

I know a few young guys that are pretty well controlled and have had their cars for a good while. I'm young myself. But there's a time and place for everything and if that isn't completely apparent then you probably shouldn't be driving like an idiot cause it will go wrong at some point.

There's always that freak possibility that something really did go wrong accidentally though, going slower than the speed limit in rainy conditions, adjusting to the conditions, hydroplaning and losing it for example. Stuff does happen so that's understandable but ultimately I think a lot of it comes down to mental maturity and driver experience.
