I locked myself out of my trunk.

I know this is gonna be a dumb question, but can anyone help me with how I open my trunk? First of all, it doesn't respond to opening it by pressing the button, it doesn't work using the physical key, nor does it work from pressing the release from inside the car.

I know what the problem is, the valet trunk lock button was probably pressed accidentally by one of the guys at the shop today when I was installing my coilovers. I figure the only way is to get the seat down from the inside, but is that even possible? I tried just now (albeit kind of in the dark) and I'm not sure if you can pull the seat down from inside the cabin, can you? I originally thought there were these buttons/lever type of things close to the seatbelt, but when I checked, I could not press the "buttons" or pull them out, so I can't access the trunk from the cabin either.

I'm stumped. This is really stupid, I know, but can somebody help me?

lol

1. look at your key... there's a slim button on the side, then you push and pull out the metal key out of the fob.
2. using the metal key, insert it into the key hole near the trunk open button back of the car
3. looking up the hole, twist the key clock-wise
4. you're welcome

Push the red buttons down and the seats should fold down towards you. You should be able to access the trunk with your key that's weird that it is not working.

I already said it's not opening with the physical key.

The two buttons are full "pressed" down to the limit where I don't see any red on it, but the seats wont fold down. I'm not sure why the physical key isnt working either, but let me go outside and try again. Apparently on another thread, someone suggested pressing down on the trunk lid while turning the key. Gonna see if that works... ><

Yea that happened to me too. I got the sporttech model like yourself.

The physical key worked for me, in fact I don't see how it couldn't work. Looks like you're from Markham (Canada) I'm assuming you're trying this at night, probably just didn't get it in right. Takes a bit of force in the turn plus its in the negatives right now as well so I doubt the cold is helping. To be honest its quite an awkward position. I'd suggest trying again in the morning or getting some good light on it. No way the key shouldn't work... that valet button doesn't have any affect on that.

What happens when you try the manual key?

Okay I just tried it again and applied a LOT of force to it and it finally opened. I thought it was "not turning" but it actually just required a lot more force into that small grip you have between your thumb and index finger. It took two hands and a little pain endurance to turn that stupid thing enough for the lid to pop open.

Thanks for the help guys. This is the stupidest design of the trunk valet button ever.

Agreed. Glad you were able to figure it out

"try harder" was going to be my next suggestion

the key is really awkward to turn and i had time turning it around too first few times

just something to get used to

harkbrz 04-06-2014 03:18 AM

Glad to have helped

Yeah, it felt like it fully locked out when trying to turn it the first few times. It only went a little further with a lot of extra elbow grease put into it. Glad I know it that's all it is now though, since it seems that a lot of other people have had this problem with not being able to open it with their physical keys either. This post will now serve to help them. :)

Thanks guys!

For future reference

folding down back seat

Same thing happened to me. I took it into the dealer, and the mechanic basically said "don't be afraid of it." It takes a lot of force to turn it.

I bought the rubber type mat for the trunk, after the first time something bumped into the valet button and locked me out. Stuff slides less now, and it hasn't happened again...yet.
