ft86 vs. M1 vs Golf R..which one to get?
 

3 different cars, and I'm interested.

Golf R is already out, and as stated in recent news, it will arrive in U.S. by 2011-2012.

and the BMW so called "M1 (unnamed)" is pretty much going to arrive soon.


Here is what we know:
-How well the Golf R perform, and its specifications
-"M1" would have a 3.0 Twin turbo engine, 50/50 weight distribution, RWD, how well the basic 135i performs against cars like 370z
-FT86's engine, guesstimate of weight.


So how well do you think FT86 will fair against the Golf R and M1?
Meaning with slick tires, engine modifications, suspension mods and all on the FT86? How much do we know about the possible engine and its tuning capabilities of the FT86?

I would love to see that the engine and chassis is good enough to match Golf R and M1.

well the problem is both the golf r and the M version of the 1 series are both turboed so the ft-86 will be slightly less capable from the factory, not to mention the price premiums for the VW and BMW. BMW will probably call it 135is or something like they did with the z4 and 335 with the increased power output, since M1 has been used on their first M division car.

the ft-86 is an entry level sports car where are both the Golf R and 1 series M are the top version of those models

given the estimate of 2700lb , close to even weight distribution, and RWD....I would imagine FT86 should be competant enough even in N/A form to go against Golf R on a Circuit course.

Cause Golf R and M1 ....from recent info i've read....is about 3300lb.

That's about 600lb difference.

Doesn't the currently speculated engine for the Ft86 include a turbo series?:iono:

If you guys are talking about Turbo version of FT-86 or well... FR-S, I would pick FT-86.

I think the FT-86 turbo could possibly be a fair match for the BMW 1 M. The Golf is wrong wheel drive.

The Golf R is wrong wheel drive with Haldex, but it certainly kicked butt in the Best Motoring time attack.
Don't forget, it has DSG.

And the M1 will probably have a DCT option, which is an advantage FT86 will not have since it is never mentioned.

So here is my opinion...M1-will be a great car, atleast 320hp/300tq, probly handles decently and its problem is its weight and price...34-3500lbs and cost atleast 50k.

Golf R-270hp-260tq, 33-3400lbs, cost 35-40k

FR-S NA version-190-200hp/170-180tq, 27-2900lbs, cost 23k. Turbo version (hopfully) atleast 250-260 hp 240tq, 27-2900lbs and proly tops out at 29-32k..

FRS is a better buy and it wouldnt take much to get either version hp up to the others levels its already gonna be lighter so FR-S gets my vote

M1 should be interesting. But definitely high price tag per usual BMW

1er BMW is one of my options as a DD car, for fun I will take my beloved MR2! :)

what about the scirocco? isnt´s it available in the states? as same as JDM imports? I do not understand why there are problems to import JDMs? where´s the problem?

and is DSG that popular in the states? automatic transimision, even semi, is for *****s :bellyroll:

scirocco isnt available in the states, and most of the people I know with GTI have manuals, but DSG its fairly popular over all. Autos sell alot more then manuals.

autos have much more weak points for my opinion, putting that fact aside I would never drive a auto it´s for mature people...
