Where did you start with your FR-S/BRZ
I'm going to start with little things like a better air filter, tinting the windows, and some shifting items like whitelines rear tranny bushing and maybe a short throw shifter, or just the stiffer components for better shifting. I'd like to eliminate the noise maker part of the intake and plug it up, those are simple. For now, I'm just going to start slow and try not to get carried away.
I did read of an ECUTEK tune from someone that put down 200 rwhp, that would be sweet, but not just yet. Wife already doesn't like the wheels, so that'll be an easy sell once I wear through these Prius tires. Just curious as to where others began and if they jumped in with both feet or are just incrementally improving the car as they go. My approach will be incremental. And lastly, what's your favorite upgrade, and why. |
LED kit was one of my first mod. Simple to do and changes a lot the look of the car once running. I also installed Weathertech mats and RallyArmor Mudflaps, for the winter here.
Then came the hood struts. Then the Lachute catback got installed this week. Now, I have a Cusco catch can to install, JPM shifter boot on the way, Perrin drop-in air filter, cusco pedal, oil change for diff and transmission, OFH on the way... Oh god, I got the mod bug, haven't I? |
If you want to plug up the sound tube, that's less than a minute mod and totally free! Open the glove box, look for the 12V outlet at the upper right, take off the cap. Peel back the carpet in passenger's footwell and shove the cap onto the hole. Done.
I think my first was clear sidemarkers. I'm not going too far with mine, but it can be addictive I admit! My favorite is definitely wheels/tires. |
I forgot about weathertech mats, those are on the list too. I'll prioritize as such.
Cleanliness and chip protection -weather tech floor mats, tinting, paint protection. Performance drop ins - air filter, shifter tune up, stiffer tranny mount, urethane bushings. Simple one day or less installation stuff. Then hog wild, eventually on the spendier items. Lower an inch, new shocks, sway bars, turbo, tires, wheels, etc. I dig the input for ideas, thanks. |
My very first and most favorite mod is the fumoto oil drain valve. Subaru already made it much easier to change the oil filter, but this just made it so much easier changing the oil. Perfect for that night of prep before a track day.

I got the weather tech mats, and swapped LEDs in all the lights lol

i think that anybody who jumps into mods without having the experience and understanding of what the car is in accordance to what they desire is foolish and doing themselves a disservice. there are rules of thumb (something along the lines of tires, brakes, suspension, power) but everyone is different so spend some time with the car and see what you want to be different, then change it.

I added the trunk mat for added rearend stability due to the increased weight...it works like the traction bars on old Mustangs.
|
Red out my tail lights. Best 15 bucks I've ever spent.

I did drop in filter/ resonator delete, then oft, then red taillights haha. Next is coilovers and wheels and tires. Or maybe header. So many options. That's what's awesome about this car.
|
started with UEL headers, and just kept going.
|
put in HID's the day after buying the car. then ordered clear sidemarkers, toyota/gt86 badges and cf trunk lip. then red tails and just got wheels and springs this week. front lip, sides and exhaust are next and then front swaybar and im done.

I'm thinking window tint first, it's pretty much a must have where I live. Followed by an air filter or intake and wheels/tires. Not sure what I'd want to do after that yet
