frs vs brz

Has it ever been determined if the stock dampers on both cars are the same?

DoomsdayJesus 04-04-2014 02:04 PM

I've read in 2 places that the BRZ suspension is stiffer up front and softer in the rear. I don't have links, but they did want a little differentiation between the two. Just a different ride style is what I understood it as.

Yeah, they're different. It's a matter of preference as far as I understand it, but you know most people who tune are going to re-do the suspension themselves anyway.

Dampers are the same.

Only different springs.

The guys at RS-R have told me differently. They have two models of the superdowns at their facility in Cali. When I showed up, they told me face-to-face that their springs were designed separately for each car. They mentioned the damping for each vehicle is different.

Regardless of what RS-R told you, RCE has actually put the stock dampers on a shock dyno to see how they perform.

Who's to say that RS-R didn't? :word:

wparsons 04-04-2014 03:53 PM

Then they'll be the first to have dyno'd the stock shocks and state that the FRS and BRZ have different dampening.

Racecomp Engineering 04-04-2014 04:04 PM

Other shops have tested them too...we aren't the only ones.

A few companies make different springs for FR-S and BRZ (like Swift) but that's an attempt to keep similar dynamics to the factory for the 2 cars.

Edit: there were rumors when the car came out that they were different with some magazines reporting that as fact, buy my guess is that was part speculation and maybe a little something lost in translation. Multiple shops found similar results to us...
