First 86 stupid things you've done with/to your FR-S

1. Brett - Lost a key fob! It's in this damn house somewhere...
2. mattles - Well I nearly backed into a dog since I couldnt see the damn thing and for some reason it was being let run free, no leash, outside of my garage in my complex.
3. mattles - I powerslide from the second to the third floor of the parking structure at work every day when I get in before everyone else.
4. Brett - Disabled my trunk release, then couldn't figure out why the trunk release didn't work anymore.
5. Dadhawk - couldn't find the trunk key hole
6. AustinTCL - I've tapped off the rev limiter a few times, and hit over 120mph already, and my car has ~300miles, not "broke-in" according to some ppl.
7. Moto-P - At the Press Lead event, I had driven mix and match of different colors and transmission FRS on the raceway. And on my 3rd ride in an AT paddle car, I stomped on the phantom clutch pedal.
8. Moto-P - Being the former Drift Day instructor, who taught Ken Gushi many years ago, I made fun of Ken as he spun out twice on the very wet skidpad in the FRS.
And10 minutes after this, I spun it on the same spot in front of Mr.Tada.
9. Moto-P - I took delivery of my own FRS, thinking I knew it all from my Press Lead 3 days, then driving off, feeling like a freaking idiot when I couldn't sync my BT to my phone till I got home and read the instructions in the manual...
10. Pekingduck - Forgetting the car is lowered... sigh....
11. Brett - Killed it at least once every day so far. 7 days and counting! Need more practice!
12. mechaghost - Having my front lip peck a curb
13. Juanito08 - Not knowing how to move the seat forward to get into the back seat =\
14. Brett - Forgot to put on the parking break at the grocery store. Luckily I had it in gear, and the lot was pretty flat. It did not roll away thankfully!
15. M&M_Hwy9 - Second day with our new car and I got my first speeding ticket (44 in a 30 zone). Missy took away my key and I am grounded.
16. russv - I find it's rather effortless to cruise at 85 without knowing it.
17. Brett - I forgot I was driving a stick (this is my first manual car), and I came to a complete stop in 6th. Twice.
18. kayhettin - this sunday in my first 86, i ran over a decaying deer in road, i broke my skidpad, and have deer flesh on the bottom of my under carriage and exhaust. now everytime i drive, I smell the flesh burning and rotting. its absolutely horrid.
19. Linseal - Wiped bird poop off my car instead of spraying it off. Bird ate a little rock, ended up scratching the car pretty bad :bonk:
20. Enigmus - I spend a lot of time reversing from my driveway and work so I got into the habit of playing with the reverse. Several times already I've accidentally put the car in reverse at stop lights with cars behind me. I haven't hit anyone but it's just embarrassing wondering what the car behind me is thinking about the crazy idiot in front of him putting the car into reverse.
21. V1B - Lusky me have car for 4 days and look its after midnight and i am fixing flat with the repair kit wth lol where did i get the damn screw in my tire. Oh well lets hope it holds up.
22. Hit a tire tread from a truck that was laying across the interstate. All of the plastic clips on the front bumper disappeared, one of the tabs for said clips broke off, and the paint is crinkled in a few places.
23.
24.

This isn't just a "where did I put that damn thing lost" either. I've been searching for an hour and a half. I've even resorted to digging through the outside trash in case it got dropped in there when I was cleaning out the other car after I got home. This sucks!

russv 05-14-2012 07:14 PM

It's probably at the last place you will look :)

Pvt AJ 05-14-2012 07:16 PM

check your pockets, that one of the most likely places.

mattles 05-14-2012 07:18 PM

Stupid things Ive done... hmm.

Well I nearly backed into a dog since I couldnt see the damn thing and for some reason it was being let run free, no leash, outside of my garage in my complex.

And I powerslide from the second to the third floor of the parking structure at work every day when I get in before everyone else.

Thats about it so far.

Of course it will be in the last place I look. Once I look there, I'll stop looking! :)

I pushed the little button in in the trunk, and when it didn't seem to do anything, I totally forgot about it. Later, I realized that my trunk wouldn't open from the fob or the button in the car. When the Scion regional manager stopped by to drop some stuff off (she's my neighbor), I complained that the damn thing was broken! Turns out that little button that I'd forgotten about disables the trunk release in the car and on the fob. Didn't realize until she emailed me and told me to go press the button in the trunk. Today has been a stupid day.

I had the opposite problem on taking delivery. We were looking for the antenna, which we figured was in the trunk. None of the buttons in the car or the key would open the trunk. I even pulled out the manual and where it shows you insert the key we (the sales manager, another person and I) were all like "there's no lock there where it shows it in the manual". Finally I bent down and looked underneath to see the lock.

We opened the trunk, turned off the lock and all was good. Took probably 10 minutes.

Three total, two standard and one valet
I don't know why I won't let the valet drive it.

AustinTCLN 05-14-2012 11:12 PM

Hope Aust delivered cars come with that many. We don't have very many valet parking places so i doubt we get the third key.

I'm 99% certain that all cars will get the exact same keys. I haven't bought a car in the last 10 years that didn't come with one.

That's where I would have sworn the key way. I had been wearing the same jeans all day, and I checked the pockets at least 20 times. Every time I looked some where and didn't find the key, I thought, "maybe they're really in here..." and checked again, as if there was some hidden compartment I in my pockets that I hadn't already checked the first 15 times.

On the garage floor under/behind a shelf. Apparently I was holding the keys when I set something on the shelf, and dropped them behind it.

...

OK, I'll admit it, I'm guilty of this one, on more than one occasion. At least I'm in fine company.

StuttterButtter 05-15-2012 12:37 PM

This has to be my favorite topic on the forum Atm.

Hawaiian 05-15-2012 12:56 PM

I haven't taken delivery of my car yet, but I'm already picking out a parking spot at work so I don't have anyone parking next to me dinging my car.

Pekingduck 05-15-2012 01:08 PM

If you are referring to my posting, nothing, except it wouldn't work because the valet lock was on, which is a button in the trunk. You have to use the key to open the trunk except we couldn't find the lock, which is "hidden" in a vertical position under the lip on the back of the trunk. Very nice actually.

If you weren't referring to mine, well, now I get to repeat being stupid twice for nothing!

Thats nice that they hid the key hole.

Juanito08 05-17-2012 07:16 PM

Not knowing how to move the seat forward to get into the back seat =\

I know I have to pull the little belt at the bottom but nothing happens

Probably the same as the response right below his, "pecked a curb"...most likely pulling up to a parking spot.

This is my greatest fear as my common parking spot is just the right height to allow my RSX to clear it when I occasionally park too far forward.

RSX - 5.9"
FR-S - 4.9" CRUNCH!

One thing to remember, the FRS is very short. If you park a foot away from the front of the space the rear end is still well within a standard space and may help prevent someone from accidentally trying to park on top of it. Also you can always back in to avoid the entire issue.

Yea, its also a trick I learned riding motorcycles. Never pull all the way in, park at the edge. This is covered in my all time favorite Rich Hall "Sniglet" (a word that doesn't exist but should because we have all experienced it).

Definition: The feeling you get when you go to pull into a parking spot only to find there is a motorcycle already parked there.

Word: Kawashocki

By the way, to see this demonstrated, look at this photo in my owner's journal. My FR-S is parked a foot away from the curb on the back-end, and all the cars around it are parked at or over the curb.

Still lots of room in the space.
