How to: Torque on an android powered stereo with no hacking v. Ca-Fi Dashlinq4

Ca-Fi Dashlinq4 in Toyota Universal Fitment - fits the FR-S/GT86/BR-Z perfectly without adapters or wiring needs (plug and play other than snipping one wire for steering wheel controls)

If no one knew - this stereo runs 4.1.1 and is their new version with upgraded hardware compared to past

I had the last unit, and got the newest one as soon as it came out! HUGE upgrade. Im an android enthusiast, but hate hacking my devices - so i was thrilled this worked out of the box.

Nice head unit. The only down part is the wireless dongle sticking out so much. Doesn't it get in the way while driving?

Silent_Dan 03-31-2014 06:23 PM

Looks like it could but to remedy for that is to get a obd2 extension cable and that would take care of that problem. :)

I would think the dongle is not proprietary and you can use any of the other ODB2 adapters available.

I do highly recommend an extension cable to prevent fatigue on the stock OBD2 connector though...

It's spare on technical details. Looks like it might be a single core? That's disappointing, with the other chinese deck out there stepping it up to dual core.

It is a dual core processor. Heres a link that compares all the ca-fi units.

that was my first thought too.. wasnt bad.

that said, you can easily unscrew the obd2 port and re-configure it so it doesnt get in the way if it bothers you.

I really like that it has a battery to keep it from cold booting each time. This seems like a really well thought out product. Does anyone happen to know if it has an accelerometer for Torque? I didn't see mention.

How would i know about the accelerometer? I've rarely used torque up to now. I can test if you want.

The battery for the cold start booting is fucking awesome. I left it for 24 hours and zing - it was on as soon i turned the key. Some OEM navigation units arent even that fast.

Go to realtime information and add the acceleration sensor x or y display and see if it's green in the list or if you are getting any data from it.

Thanks for posting this. I'm really tempted. A couple questions if you don't mind --

I noticed in your videos, several times it looked like the unit didn't respond to your touch. Do you notice that in regular use? I realize it's tough to deal with the screen while also recording the video, so maybe that's what was going on.

I don't suppose you've tried pairing it with an external 10Hz GPS? This looks like it could make a nice track timer if it can pair with the Qstarz or Garmin GPS.

Thanks!

yep you can easily do that in settings... or even turn on a screensaver interestingly enough

Honestly, I haven't had any real issues with it not responding - im fairly certain that was because I wasn't fully hitting the screen while talking and videoing the radio

I have noticed the hardware home, back, and menu buttons are faster to respond... no idea why though.

I haven't tried any other GPS units - but it is a pretty standard adapter it seems. That said, the included one is pretty beefy and locks instantly.

Decided to write a full review guys - check it out with all the photos, and videos you could ever ask for :)

i cant remember if i've stumbled onto your other reviews/thread posts, but have you tried the no-name chinese knock off? i think they're called the ouku T7019A radio. apparently they're good but im just scared of buying something shipped overseas and having to deal with overseas company for warranty.
