General PurePrice question
With PurePrice, what exactly does this mean? If I understand correctly the dealership decides what the PurePrice is, correct? So one dealership could have a PurePrice of $26,000 and another could have a PurePrice of $27,000? This is PurePrice right?

It means you pay their initial asking price instead of having them take a thousand or two off. It's a "benefit".
|
I think PurePrice is when they have to sell the car at MSRP set by Scion, with exceptions for last year's models, or other price discounts set by Scion for each dealer.
|
PurePrice is when the dealership sets the price of the vehicle and that is exactly what you pay for the vehicle. There is no need to "haggle" to a better price or to include more options. It can vary from dealership to dealership.
The "benefit" is there is no need to negotiate, you know what your going to have to pay before you even talk to someone. PurePrice and MSRP are not always the same. The best is to find a dealership that will PurePrice the MSRP value of the car. Thats what I got :) |

What if the dealer says you have to pay an extra $688 for filling nitrogen in your tires? Did anybody get any surprises by unexpected 'extra' fees while finalizing the financing papers?

I think pure price is that all the cars on the lot with the same features and options will cost the same. Like they're all the same price for that tier. If you go to another dealer, they can set the price of whatever they want, but all the customers get the price.
Like all the FRS at dealer 1 costs 25,000. Dealer 2 charges 24,500. However all the FRS have to cost the same on the dealer lot except with the options and such. |
Pure Price is some bullshit Scion created to make it sound like kids who don't know how to negotiate are getting a good deal. In reality, pure price is probably more than you should pay and you should go around to different dealerships until you find one that will negotiate below pure price - Of the 5 dealerships I checked out 2 went below pure price for my lease and were negotiating around $320-$330/month (absolutely 0 down) where the pure price dealerships were asking ~370-380

For example, an AT BRZ Limited with no extras lists at $29,490, but the average negotiated price in my area is $27,444. In contrast, the equivalent AT Monogram FR-S lists at $29,255, but because of this Pure Price crap people are actually paying $29,255 for the car. So the BRZ buyer seems to be saving about $2K. And I doubt they're really having to negotiate that hard to get that discount. My Subaru dealer opened the negotiation well below MSRP. Just walking in the door and appearing interested in the car gets you a better deal than at the Scion dealership. |

Bob Smith Toyota tried to get me to pay an extra 1800 for a tint and LoJack, even though I didn't want either. Then they tried to strongarm me, saying that I shouldn't have wasted their time, and that these were flying off the lot. Went to another dealer (Toyota of Orange), who gave me no bullshit. Paid $23,500 and left with what I wanted. |
Pure Price is something set by toyota, and although the larger dealerships have more "breathing room", they do get bitched at if they go below msrp for scions.
Work at a dealership and friends with the finance manager. |

One dealership wouldn't even give me $500 for my trade in, the one I bought from gave me $1700... |
