Intakes to get for frs
I want to know what would be a good intake to install on my frs. Any suggestions?

Honestly, there really isn't anything worth while at the moment. You are better off with maybe a simple silicone intake pipe and a good drop in filter. Or, wait for the Grimmspeed one to come out.

Do you have a budget? If not, TRD, if so, drop in filter!

We have a subforum for engine modification with tons of reading you can do. Just be warned that you will want to spend a lot of money after reading through it!

Better tires (see tire rack for ideas) may be advantageous, depending on what kind of driving you plan on doing. An aftermarket exhaust system (header) could add some power or at least with a axle back muffler, make it sound more powerful. humfrz |

TRD Cold Air intake. IMO, has a seat of the pants feel of more power >>>> it fills in the flat spot, just a bit, especially when starting out. I felt it is worth while. It is a true COLD AIR (fresh, un-engine heated air), Its easy to intall. Very high quality. This was my first mod, I felt this change from the TRD alone. For reference, when I added my exhaust, I felt no significant change. |
I just put in a Cosworth filter in my airbox and have a Perrin inlet pipe. I've noticed something but not anything ground breaking. You won't get that much in the way of gains, but every bit counts I guess.

Get a simple air filter. 50$ instead of 300-400$ and you get 90% of the gains.
|
Skip the intake entirely, get a TRD/Cosworth/K&N/etc. drop-in filter and spend the rest on an Open Flash Tablet (OFT). $500ish and you'll get significant real world gains in both max HP & TQ, real world driveability, + Off the shelf (OTS) tunes for life + data logging + real time data graphing + CEL resets + free e85 upgrade. This should be the first power upgrade for every '86 owner (with exception for those planning turbo from day one).

OP, I also agree a drop in and inlet tube is the way to go.

injen brah!

Drop in filter, don't go dry a oiled filter gives you a better balance of gains.
