I'm very surprised by the results, they did a good job on that Camaro.

YukiHachiRoku 03-28-2014 12:39 PM

Yeah, that Z28 is bad ass, I woulnd't mind owning one.

I got to drive a ZL1 at my last dealership, and damn, that thing was fucking MEAN!

Sick a$$ car

ZDan 03-28-2014 01:16 PM

Taking 20 lb. worth of speakers out of a 3750 lb. car (half a percent!) isn't what I call "hardcore". More a cynical exercise that will appeal to a few rich idiots who somehow think that makes it inherently "more racecar".

Motor Trend has always been the cheerleadiest of the industry-cheerleading U.S. car mags, so his fawning is not surprising. Gush gush gush! It ain't exactly sober objective journalism...

The car is superfast, no doubt about it. It is also still a big heavy brick and not what *I* call a "driver's car". But to each his own.

I do approve of the front bowtie badge, looks 1000x better than the stupid standard gold one, which should have stayed in the 70s!

Flowtie!

"Drove a Camaro off the track at Turn 3. That car sucked!" LOL!

Edit: Pirelli Trofeo-R tires on the Camaro...those are DOT R comps if I'm not mistaken.

Cool car and all, but $75,000 for a Camaro? That's more than a new Stingray.

OR four V6 Mustangs!

SpeedyJay 03-28-2014 01:47 PM

I can see why the GTR weights 3800lbs because of the AWD system but why does a RWD car weight 3800lbs...?

I think if GM put some more thought into there chassis design they could lose a few hundred pounds. I think they went with the 'old American boat' chassis design.

It's not so much the chassis as is the entire frame the Camaro is built on. It was designed back in 2008 time frame and was to costly to change it. The next Camaro will be built on the same platform as the Cadillac ATS, I'd expect a 200-400 pound decrease. Although it is a miracle how close the production version looks like the concept.

Although even look at the new Corvette and how it weighs 3200, technology weighs things down.

Of those two, I would take the Camaro every time.

Stevie86 03-28-2014 03:39 PM

Lol Chevy. It's still gonna handle like shit.

King Tut 03-28-2014 03:46 PM

Love it. I would buy one, but not at $75k, and I guess that very few are paying MSRP for them. I was there the Sunday before they ran that track test at Barber on Monday. I saw them unloading the Z/28 off a flat bed truck as we were heading to the awards ceremony. I can assure that it doesn't handle like shit and my favorite stat on it is the 305 width front tires which are the widest front tires fitted to any production car.

SpeedyJay 03-28-2014 04:51 PM

I'm sure that Z28 handles nice on the track but at what cost on the road. People who can afford to buy a $75,000 car normally don't like to get there back bone pulverised if they go for a Sunday drive.
