tint / tpms interference question
I am taking my car in to get it tinted tomorrow. The guy at the shop I am taking to was telling me that since many new tints have metal in them, that they can affect the TPMS sensors. Is there any truth to this? They are having a deal on a 3m tin, cannot remember which one but i was told it was the top of the line, for $199 for my car and i can get any % i want with cash. I was told though that these tints have metal in them and can cause interference.
Opinions? |
This is theoretically possible and some people have reported it. I'm skeptical, but it seems proven around the industry.
Can't really advise you any way on this one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
The place I am going is running a sale on 3m FX-p and from my understanding, this is a non metallic version. Their special is $199 installed. The other option is 3m crystalline for $40 It sounds like it would look darker, but i just don't know if it's worth spending the $40 extra.
Everything is cut by a plotter and this shop has a really goo reputation in the area so I want to trust them, but then again you can't really trust anyone. |
I doubt there's enough metal content to cause a problem. People leave their summers in their house behind brick, wood, vinyl, aluminum and it still triggers the connection to their car outside.

Well, now, Basket Case, ..... I don't know anything about the metallic composition of tinting material nor anything about the TPMS systems ....:(
HOWEVER, I have difficulty believing that the amount of metal in a tint job, compared to the amount of metal in your car, would significantly affect the operation of the TPMS. humfrz |

Get non-metallic tint. That's all.

Thought it through, did some reading. Gonna go with the crystalline.

No. The metal in your tint will not affect your TMPS. The only thing it will affect are your AM Stations... and also a little on your FM Stations but it's not significant.
If you're saying 3M Crystalline for 40 dollars more on top of the 199... DO IT. I paid close to 1000 dollars for my 3M Crystalline. You'll know it's legit 3M Crystalline if there are 3M logos on the film. |

I'm pretty sure it's the 3m on my car, at 20%. I've had no issues with the tpms system.

First ever heard of this lol. I'm tinted all around zero issues on any vehicle with tint ever...

I have the 20% 3m on my '13 Frs. Looks great and have no problem with any signal loss. I used to be in the business and have never had anyone have problems with signal loss. I paid a fellow in town $140. He does all my work and does a great job.
