What would you do...
I've seen and heard stories of people getting their car wrecked, so I know it could be worse. My scenario was very nearly a hard rear-end collision because a driver wasn't paying attention.
I had the car for less than a week, then some lady grazed my bumper. Here's the damage: http://i.imgur.com/oF6P7JJ.jpg I know. It's not that bad. Most of it will buff out, I'm sure. Assuming insurance pays out, how would you guys go about it? Replace entire bumper? Or buff, touch-up and pocket the money for other things? I could also ask a body shop I know to touch it up for me their way. I did see a DIY about some guy repairing a scratch on his FR-S by sanding and painting it. I'll install my own mods, but I'm too squeamish for that. EDIT: they're still waiting on the lady to give her statement... ugh. I haven't had the insurance adjuster quote me yet, but the body shop told me around $700. |
I would buff and touch up. It won't be noticeable much at all. Repaint further down the road if you get more scratches elsewhere. It really wouldn't be worth it to remove and repaint the whole bumper just for something so small.

Buff/Touch up/Keep the leftover brother!

For that, I would get an estimate before reporting to insurance. If the lady doesn't want to pay cash report to insurance. That looks like $1000 or less. I had a similar incident when someone hit my parked car and it was $300, buff and blend. The person gave me the cash, no insurance needed although I had the insurance info.

See if you can get it buffed out.
And you're lucky that's all that happened. Look at what happened a week into me owning MY BRZ: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...16898&page=831 (one post down from the top). Took the repair shop 12 days. You're darn lucky it was only scuffing w/ you ;) |
I would want a new bumper repainted.... if the car was 2 years old then I would pocket the money... but new car... I would want everything perfect.
That's just me though.... |
I had someone back into me and to sand, buff and re-paint the affected area it was around $100 less than actually replacing & re-painting the entire bumper. If I were you and her insurance is paying for it then I would I try to get them to replace the bumper. You mine as well try if you aren't the one having to pay for it. Good luck!

Yes, scratch x and touch up paint. No biggie.

I would have it fixed. It would just piss me off every time I looked at it otherwise.
