Toyota Warranty Plus - worth it?

I am about to have my 22.5K mileage service done, which is apparently the last one covered by the original free service plan. Toyota is offering me another 3 services (30K, 38K, and 45K) for a prepaid amount of $300.

My question is, is this a good deal or should I just pay out of pocket? I have a full 7 year warranty on the car (paranoia with a 1st gen, 1st model yr car), however that does not include service.

Do the math and figure out how much the service would cost you to do yourself. If it's a better deal, take it.

They sent me an estimate of $700 for the next 3 services (vs. $300). However, it's their estimate... not mine. Just wanted to see how others weighed in with more car ownership experience.

Yep. Wish I had bought in on extra service coverage since I'm rapidly putting miles on my car and planned on having the dealership handle maintenance intervals. Just got reamed by the dealership on 30k maintenance, it's time to quit going to them and do my own maintenance.

besides the oil changes, what else are they doing?

N1rve 03-25-2014 01:54 AM

If the 30K includes a brake fluid exchange...I'd do it. :D

It looks like they are doing everything explicitly outlined in the owner's manual. The benefit to the dealer is that they get to keep me around as a customer I suppose.... I asked for more information to make a better decision on the matter.

Negotiate it if possible. Talk them down.

I'm curious about this as well. I'm about to get my 22k service in the next month or two. Not sure what to do after that. I'll probably go with it. $300 isn't that much money.

Any interest in doing this stuff yourself? Fluids alone are much cheaper than what they are quoting you, which includes the labor. At 45k miles, you haven't even really gotten into the "expensive" stuff (spark plug change)

I don't have the space or means to do it myself just yet. Hoping to remedy that when I move this summer.

I'll post back with what I can negotiate.

I'm seeing on the forums that some folks paid $400+ for the 30K service. That alone would make this deal worthwhile.

What about overpaying for routine maintenance easily done yourself makes this worthwhile?

Change your own oil and fluids, check your CV joints, run through the list, keep receipts for records and pocket the difference.

Wish I could. Right now I am living in an area where I can't even wash my car let alone jack it up. Once that is remedied, the fun can begin...
