Oil pan sealant?

What have people been using on the oil pans when reinstalling them? I know this motor wants a sealant not a gasket.

Toyota black FIPG

Any of the more accessible brands, permatex?

M1K3 03-25-2014 09:23 AM

I would use the permatex ultra grey

Subaru Fuji Bond is what has been used on EJ motor oil pans in WRX and STIs for the past 10 years. That is what I used. You can get it at the Subaru parts counter. It is like a more liquidy version of Honda Bond which is great stuff. Technically you are supposed to use a rare Three Bond product.

Another great option that I use on pretty much everything is HondaBond

i just went to Toyota dealer and picked up their sealant. it took 2 grown men and a crowbar to pry off the pan the 1st time so def worth the $10

Just make sure you clean the old gunk off well. I use a brass brush and get every spec of it off. Follow up with a isopropyl alcohol rinse and it'll bond like crazy. Leave any residue or oil on either mating surface and it won't stick.

Personally i used three bond 1217B

Nice. I went to my local Subaru dealer and they had a couple huge tubes of Three Bond but neither were the exact formula the service manual recommends. I am sure that Three Bond, Fuji Bond, or Honda Bond will all get the job done. I still have my 12 year old tube of Honda Bond since it is good ish.

Heads up. 3B is in Japan. The manufactures are in Japan. Not saying they buy and rebrand 3B stuff or anything like that.......
Just gotta be careful with the type. Some of the newer stuff requires a mix of two colors or it never hardens or over hardens. I wouldn't use white or black but I might mix the two and see what happens.
