The oldest owner? BRZ, FR-S, or GT86

After scanning through one of the threads, I starting thinking, "Damn, I most be the venerable and grizzliest person who has ordered one of these cars." Well, maybe Tetsuya Tada, the man behind the car, might be as old as I am.

Btw, I am 56 now, I hope and expect to get the car before I turn 57 (which is around the corner).

Anyone here older, more senior, august, and experienced at driving fast?

my dad is 57 and we are sharing/building the car before i ship out to the military

Grateful Dave 05-12-2012 06:07 PM

I'm not older but I just turned 49 in April.
My Asphalt FRS will be here in June.:happyanim:

mattles 05-12-2012 06:11 PM

I saw one or two old timers around your age with the first86 winners in Long Beach, but yea your numbers are few and far between. ;D

Klinn 05-12-2012 06:20 PM

You're not alone -- I'm 56 too. One of the other enthusiasts I met during a dealer demo was justifying buying the car as his 50th birthday present to himself. Hey, somebody's got to buy these things new so we can sell them to the younger crowd once the depreciation has knocked a chunk off the price. ;-)

Sonex51 05-12-2012 06:20 PM

If my dad likes my car, I've thought about getting him one in a year an a half as a 60th b-day gift... I'd love cruising with him somewhere, maybe racing him too.
The cool thing about the good drivers car that comes along every once and a while is that their appreciation transcends generations.

I'd prefer to rebuild a 68 mustang for him which was his favorite car, but he sold it cause I was coming along about 30 years ago...

geb2391 05-12-2012 08:15 PM

61 here, second chilhood or mid life crisis whatever

BMWDavid 05-12-2012 08:34 PM

I turned 57 two months ago. Life time car and bike nut. Been waiting for a car like the BRZ/FR-S for a long time.

It will be parked next to my '89 Carrera 3.2.

Yeah, I remember he was posting in off-topic a while back... I'm not 100% sure but he was in his 70s or 80s I believe. I think it was an age-related thread, I'll see if I can find it.

dookie11 05-12-2012 10:16 PM

And here I thought I was old when I joined the quarter century club a few months ago:P

Scooby South 05-12-2012 10:57 PM

Did a quick search and he is @whaap, running at 70+ years old and retired but still enjoying driving. He has a Fit and a Miata.

Great respect to him.

Subie 05-12-2012 11:36 PM

I think it's great to see that we have some more "senior" members on this forum. It just goes to show how broad this car's appeal is. It's got great driving dynamics and creature comforts that anyone can enjoy.

Rampage 05-12-2012 11:38 PM

58 but sticking with my MR2 Spyder for now. Yeah I love the twisties and the speed. Just completed a 2ZZ-ge and 6 speed swap on the Spyder. Now she REALLY makes me smile!

SgtBolt 05-12-2012 11:52 PM

Ah, yes, thanks. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...7&postcount=36

This is who I want to be when I'm 77.

res 05-13-2012 12:24 AM

I am 56 and I don't believe in "mid-life crisis" cars. I think you always drive what you want depending on your finances and family situation regardless of age. I have always liked to drive smaller, nimble cars. I have owned new 1976 Fiat X1/9, 1978 Datsun 280Z, 1987 turbo Sprint, 1999 Civic Si (b16a), 2002 RSX-S, 2006 Civic Si (current car).

I have also owned numerous 'muscle' cars: 1973 454 Monte Carlo, 1974 350 Nova (police package), 1979 T/A 6.6 Trans-Am (Pontiac 400), and driven many other modified cars owned by family members and friends: 1969 427 Chevelle SS, 1969 383 Charger, 1969 383 Challenger, 1970 340 'Cuda, etc.

I have also driven more economical family cars when the family needed me to.

I still prefer a car like the BRZ and I (and my wife) cannot wait for mine to arrive.

Whaap.

He's 70 something iirc.

Slick 05-13-2012 08:34 AM

I guess we are all part of the "older" demographic for this car, but I'm only 45.

Tyrant 05-13-2012 09:52 AM

22! i'm catching up!

Dave-ROR 05-13-2012 01:59 PM

Reminds me of a decade ago seeing a ~85 year old (Lady IIRC) driving their brand new Integra Type-R and absolutely loving the car.

I can only hope to be able to do so when I'm in my 80s.

SCMike 05-13-2012 08:29 PM

As someone who was born when FDR was president, I find these kinds of threads hilarious. I ain't dead yet. I'm looking for a replacement for my twin-turbo 335i Coupe. The BRZ is starting to sound perfect, but I'm still thinking about it.

I'm 23, but the dealer called me to say that the owner of one of his premium models backed out and wanted a different color, because he was 77 years old and knew this was his last car.

Chee-Hu 05-15-2012 11:45 AM

Great to hear there are more than a handful "mature" folks around here.

Space Boy Matt 05-15-2012 12:19 PM

I just turned 37 and am on the lists for a White 6MT FR-S or Prem BRZ. Hopefully Scion or Subaru will have one for me this year. :D

GoSharks 05-15-2012 12:27 PM

Just turned 56 recently. My two favorite cars that I have owned were a RX-7 and a MINI Cooper S. I have also owned an early 80's Corvette, a '87 Porsche 911 Cabrio, and a few others. I love the styling and the concept of the FRS/BRZ, I take delivery of my BRZ Limited, WRB MT on 5/29. Can't wait!

dookie11 05-15-2012 04:38 PM

Nice :) Would love to meet non-20somethings for a change at car events.

NumbersGuy 05-15-2012 05:07 PM

30 here! :)

Just go to car events that don't interest the 20-somethings :D

DP82 05-15-2012 09:16 PM

Well, not much of a race I can say between my pre-order delivery (June?) and my 30th birthday which is in November... early present I suppose :)

So long to my 20s this year!

My 60th BD end of this month!!! Where's my BRZ birthday present???? Heck, I'm #11 on the waiting list so maybe delivery by November??? Could I interest you in a "gift" exchange to balance out the timeline? :)
:burnrubber:Yeeee Haaaw! BRZ

DP82 05-15-2012 11:24 PM

Ah, tempting... Although I question whether or not November delivery would happen :x who knows though!?

Regardless, have an excellent birthday! Hope you receive some good news on your day!

Gah, and 11 is my number... Nov 11th is THE day :)

Yep, that's me. I'm 77. Still have the Miata but traded the Fit in on a CRV.

I was undecided between the Scion and the Subaru but since I'm a sucker for leather it looks like I will be going with the Subaru Limited. Now I just have to convince myself that I don't have to have a saddle tan interior.

LOL. Awhile back I was checking out a Civic Si just for grins and of course part of the sales experience is that you are introduced to the Gen. Mgr. before you leave. The dude proceeds to tell me I'm not part of the "demographic" for a Civic Si purchase! yada yada yada. I spose I been profiled due to age! #@%$& and I'll never visit that dealer again!!!

Us older farts might look old on the outside but, it's what's on the inside that counts!!! Ever since I was a teen I've had a variety of sporty urban assault DD vehicles whether it be a domestic muscle car or foreign pocket rocket type. Right now, these "86" cars meet my performance/fun factor/eye candy criteria more than anything else on the market at their price point. Sure, it could use more HP and definitely will have to have an aftermarket exhaust to fill out the cut outs and sound better. Like you, I pulled the trigger on the BRZ Limited over the FRS mainly for the seats. Wifey likes "heated" seats so must make her happy, too!

EDCOVEY 06-05-2014 12:07 PM

Oldest owner?

I could be the oldest owner at 77. Just installed rear lip spoiler, Shark Fin antenna, fog lights and HID headlights on my Firestorm Red FRS. :)

I am a youngster compared to you. I will be 57 in a few months. Getting a supercharger and new exhaust on the BRZ when the parts come in. I like toys. I also have a 2004 350z and a 1983 Camaro Z28 and other pedestrian vehicles like a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500.

DuMa 06-05-2014 12:33 PM

31. my 5th car already...
