Help me choose custom spring rates for coilovers

I've decided to get the Fortune Auto 510 when I have saved up enough money. Simple post...just need to narrow down what spring rates to get.

Mods - Planning on mostly a stock car with just these few mods... 9" wide wheels, 245-255 street tires (going to try D2, PSS, RS3, RE11 and maybe others), upgraded brake pads and fluid, maybe a 4.56 or 4.88 FD and catted headers more in the future and that's pretty much it..and of course, coilovers. Stock aero. Pretty much a super simple, no-fuss, NA low power, stock car.

Use - DD on the weekdays in SoCal (but, I do not care about "comfort" one bit and I am very very tolerant driving around on a "racecar" stiffness around town. Mostly trackdays for fun, 2-3 times a month, at Button Willow and Willow Springs (maybe others further away or out of state on special occasions); so, a moderate amount of track time. AutoX and drift events here and there for fun but seldom, whenever interesting ones come about.

I want it Firm and hard like rottweiler. Fuck comfort and a cushy caddy ride.

Firm doesn't mean fast. Look to some of the vendors with your needs and they will point you in the right direction

What does Fortune recommend?

Maybe not relevant since you are going with 510s, but I just ordered a set of 500s from ft86SpeedFactory. They recommended 7k/6k F/R based on my need for best comfort for DD with predictable oversteer. Jeremy said they had luck running a bit lower in the rear to balance the car out. I trust there judgment and experience with Fortune Auto. I'll report back when they arrive and I get them installed. BTW I went with the Swift upgrade and roller bearings.

If you want firm, go firm. I think you can then lose the rear sway bar and won't need to worry so much about correcting geometry when lowered. Look into it. I think that's what CSG does.

This, going way too stiff on the spring rates will make it horrible if the dampers aren't valved for it. Forget stiff, you'll have bouncy.

Good for aggressive daily and occasional track with my particular setup: 8kg 8kg
Also very good: 8kg 9kg
If I find those rates too soft and if I had a little more mechanical grip: 10kg 11kg

Who said the dampers aren't going to be valved for it?? All Fortune Auto COs are built to order and correctly/optimally valved to the specific rates chosen ;)

Nice! ..I look forward to it :)

Yes, I heard the same from Feal regarding a lower rate in the rear - more power to the ground, more turn in and accel grip, etc.

30k/32k if you want to leave comfort out the window.

Seriously though, just run what FA recommends. I have my own reservations on FA simply due to driving multiple platforms with the 500s and 510s.

I'd love to hear them.. I'm pretty sure they might be bad compared to your SRC's, hehe ;)

All my customers with FA LOVE including many people here. I wrote in your last thread why they're IMO one of the best, even up against more expensive competitors.

As for spring rates, I'm more concerned with your choice on the 510. The 510 is truly track-only or very limited daily driving. The valving is quite aggressive and if you're leaning more towards daily, 500 would be a better choice with Radial Bearing's added.

This car needs an offset spring rate, and FA recommends 7/6 but for people looking for some a bit more aggressive, I've been doing 9/8.

Our DSG-Edition FA500's are 9k/9k for the EvoX and it's plenty solid.

FYI -- we still have a few spots left for our DSG edition FA's, they can be made for the FRS/BRZ.

We worked hard with Fortune to create something between the 500 and 510. A daily driver 510 basically with elements of the Dreadnoughts. This is the EvoX edition but all the info is here:

Have you heard about the story of the frog inside the well?
