BRZ Battery died, when I tried starting it it made a terrible noise.

I killed the battery on my brz and it when I tried jumping it, it made an awful noise. I tried pulling the battery connection to reset the ecu but it still made a bad noise? I'm towing it to Subaru, since the drive train is under warranty. Any thoughts?

What exactly made the noise? Starter?

wparsons 03-19-2014 08:43 PM

You're going to need to be A LOT more specific than "awful noise" if you want useful help from people online.

Most likely was starter relay clicking from not having enough voltage/amperage. Charge the battery and re-try. I bet you will be all set

It sounded like a metal can full of marbles...Sorry about the brief post; I was out waiting for the tow truck and freaking out a bit. Once the car moved I got to see the pool of oil under the car and some pieces of a bearing...I am thinking that the engine is Fucked.

Good news is that I'm only at 36,000 miles so it should be under drive train warranty. The only mod I have on the engine is a Perrin Intake and Inlet Tube; which they saw when I got my yearly inspection and they said nothing about.

Yuck. Good luck with the warranty. It surely must have been a horrible noise to do that.

Ranatsu 03-19-2014 09:48 PM

was it a really rapid tapping sound? Because thats the sound of the start relay when there is not enough voltage to turn the engine over.

cmspooner 03-19-2014 09:49 PM

It was pretty awful...imagine putting metal ball bearings in a blender

OICU812 03-19-2014 09:52 PM

Motor blowing up while starting not too likely. But...alas keep us posted. Sounds like starter grenaded ..

cmspooner 03-19-2014 09:56 PM

Would that cause the oil leak? It leaked on the truck as well.

Ranatsu 03-19-2014 10:38 PM

Hmm I didn't see the pictures before I posted. I got no advice. Good luck.. Hopefully its nothing catastrophic.

Is it just the picture or is your oil really that dark? 5k miles on an oil change should not even be that dark.

Agreed, have you been changing the oil? Maybe it's just the lighting in the picture.
