Door dings. Grrrrr...
2 Attachment(s)
Got a couple dings yesterday on the drivers door:
I got hit while I was parked on the street for a couple hours (in a town that isn't too crowded/busy). The other vehicle must've stopped to pickup/drop-off someone next to me. :sigh: |
it's painful
but, living in LA, i expect it now and just accept the fact that, sooner or later, it's going to happen it's like... when you realize that your baby daughter is going to grow up and some douche face ends up fucking her even if you are very very careful. |
Are you planning to do anything or are you going to wait later to fix it?

Looks very minor, should buff out

Venting....
We went to my god daughters 4th birthday and since I knew everyone that is attending.(all car guys) I was not going to park far away.. During the party, my friend came up to me and said he hit my car with his door.. I'm so fuckin pissed since my e36 M3 has been flawless all it's life.. And for a friend and a car guy to give me my first ding really got to me.... Sorry, I'm done now.. |
Man, I don't even know how I haven't had a door ding yet.
*knocks on wood* I did get the right corner of my bumper chin caved in somehow, though. Maybe that's the price for not getting any door action. |
I myself am always very careful also and try to park far away. Someone dinged my passenger door but I can't get a good picture of it. I do have free PDR repair, is there a minimum dent before they repair it? It's only one and very minor but noticeable if you look, it doesn't bother me much except when I look at it but i have free PDR repairs so why not?
A little something like this: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_VMpKlFfgrX.../door+ding.jpg |

I'm not too worried... it's my year-round daily driver and wasn't going to remain pristine forever (I just wasn't expecting it to happen how it happened). Quote:
It's not worth getting pissed over little stuff like this. I sighed when I saw it, and was frustrated enough to post here, but my blood pressure didn't rise. Side note: I see my thread was moved... I wasn't looking for technical help (was just venting), but my bad for posting in "BRZ General". |
I have 3 dings on my car.
1. Passenger door, smack dab in the middle of the door panel. 2. Hood, passenger/windshield corner. Not sure how this happened. I'm guessing a really ambitious acorn. 3. Roof, smack dab in the middle of the panel. Honestly, not even going to try to guess where this came from. |
Pulled out of my garage one morning and heard some sort of racket over the radio.
Didn't think much of it until I got home and saw a baby barrier for the stairs laying in my parking spot in the garage. Turns out SOMEONE in my house got something and the barrier thingy fell after they were done and mysteriously no one has a clue who did it. When it fell, it's wood btw, it hit the lightly rolled edge that surrounds our backseat windows and then SLID DOWN THE REAR quarter panel. nice big scratch. About 9 inches long. Probably will buff out. BUT I mean dammit. Had an 06 GTO for 4 years with no garage and it never got anything but hail damage. Had my FRS 5 months, IN A GARAGE and it gets a damned ding. ugh. Sorry for the rant. |

So I've noticed that there weren't any tips (other than buffing) on how to deal with these once they are there...
I have a black car with a white door ding, I'd like to keep my car its own color :/... What is the best way to clean a door ding where they hit so hard they left a streak of paint/dent? Cleaning? waxing? would a clay bar help with this? Here is a very not helpful, close up pic included (also sorry it is so huge...): |

Wash the area thoroughly. Clay it ensuring to keep the area lubed appropriately. As necessary polish with a Dual Action polisher like the Porter Cable 7424XP or Griot's 6". You can polish by hand but it's much more difficult to get the results, not to mention more time consuming. If it's fixed, wax/seal. If not, time to look into picking up touch up paint and clear coat, use multiple thin layers instead of large gobs of paint and a product like the Lenka version or Dr. Colorchip. Check out this thread on whats possible by polishing |

On second look at my ding, it seems that it wasn't as deep as I first thought. At first it looked like it went through the clear coat. which makes sense since there was the other car's paint on my car. I appreciate the short write up! I'll do this probably tomorrow when it isn't so windy. |
