These cars are fast

I mean, not GTR fast or v8 fast, but with a simple e85 tune these cars can get up to LUDICROUS speeds pretty fast for a little 4cyl.

Went for my last run last night on e85, and I must say it wasn't hard at all to burn through that fuel :happyanim:

Can't wait to start really tracking it. I love this car. I'm so glad I got a tune because it really woke up this car :). Thanks @shiv@vishnu

I hate all these posts about our cars being slow and whatnot, yea it feels slow stock but honestly with a tune this car feels almost perfect! Great performance out of a modern 4 cyl. engine! I think if all these naysayers test drove an 86 with a tune, their opinions would've been a lot different. Here's hoping for more updated toyota gt86 revisions in the future

Anyways, so glad about my decision about buying this car. I was a negative nancy for a while after the initial bliss wore off, but now I'm re-experiencing this car in an awesome light. I can't even imagine how this car would be to drive with a turbo/supercharger

A lot of people just completely miss the point of this car. I chalk it up in large part to young people who have never ridden in an MGB just not having lived the history. I've been waiting a long time for a car like this.

I love mine, but I added a turbo lol

Ok total newbie here. So what do you guys mean when you "tune" them. I know what e85 is. So when you do that, does it still pass CA smog or does it still run on 91 gas or severe mpg loss in exchange for power? Also how do you tune and how much is it?

It's not slow, nor fast.

Here's how the internet does 0-60's...

Sub 6, fast
Sub 4, really fast.
Sub 3, wut?

Over 6-8 seconds is mediocre speed.

Over 8 seconds is slow.

Unless you're on Youtube, only sub 3 is fast. But 99% of people never experienced such speeds. The average person gets headaches at that rate...

Read this thread:

And you'll be flashing your car in just 5 minutes.

That fast = WRX, or STI

All right, so I just counted, and there are 77 forums and sub-forums listed on the main page. You'd have to be kind of a vinegar-based feminine hygiene product to criticize a newbie for not knowing where to look in that dog's breakfast of topics.

For reference, a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds.

Think it could catch our cars on the track?

I'll admit it. I was impressed by the GT86's chassis and overall handling dynamics out of the box, but underwhelmed by the motor. I knew there were lots of options (tunes, running E85, headers, FI, etc.), so I didn't sweat it. After 3 months, I barely broke 1000mi, so I finally flashed my (mere) "stage 1" tune today. I hate to use the ridiculously overrun phrase, but it really is the way the car should have come from the factory. I understand *why* we got what we got, what with politics at giant companies like Toyobaru and with MPG/emissions pressures, but there really is a whole other world for this car, as a NA platform. Thankfully, it looks like the engineers created such a carefully considered platform that none of us need worry. As long as you're willing to add supporting mods (wheels/tires, suspension, brakes, cooling, ++) then you can build a stupid (and I mean stupid) fast AND fun car for a decent amount of cash.

I can't wait to get headers and run E85 when the weather gets a little warmer here (in Portland, OR) during the mornings. I had a great E85 tune on my DD Spec.B and loved every minute of it. But try as I might, I could never spend enough on the car to make it as fundamentally awesome as the GT86 is, right out of the box.

Exactly - I've had a BMW 2002(1974) and four Datsun 240Zs - loved them all.
It's all about harmony.

The entire point of this car is for it to be the best tuner friendly car this side of the millennium. For people who do have and do not have an 86, saying "not powerful enough, not fast enough, etc." are completely moronic. The 86 stock, is great. If a stock 86 isn't good enough for you, well it is the perfect starting benchmark to add more power and performance. Its sort of like building your own computer.

Love it! This is sooo true. I love building computers and I love modding cars. Just want to get more into the engine/performance side and not just aesthetics.
