Clunk noise when put into park
 

Like the title says, I have a loud clunking sound when I put it into park. There's an even louder clunk sound when I turn off the engine. Any idea what this is?

What is this 'park' you speak of?

The noise you hear when the car is shifted into park is the engagement of the parking pawl. Nothing serious. If you want to reduce the stress to the parking pawl I suggest doing the following while you have your foot on the brake: put the car in neutral first, engage the emergency brake and then shifting into park.

Lol, yes I drive an auto-tragic. I have many hills on my commute and many tailgaters.

Oh I see. I've had the car for a couple months now and it just started making this sound when I turn off the engine. Why hasn't it done this before? Also thanks very much for the advice, I'll be sure to shift into neutral :)
