Rear diffuser idea
 

I see different diffusers, all of which fit under the rear black plastic piece that the reverse backup light fits into, so the diffusers are all basically almost flat, parallel to the ground.

I have a single exit exhaust, and I'm wondering about removing the big black plastic rear body piece, and making a diffuser that fits all the way up to the rear bumper bodywork, basically a diffuser that comes up at a greater angle, something that looks like what the Lotus Elise/Exige has.

Seems to me this would be a much more effective shape and angle for a diffuser, and it might look really good too.

Any thoughts would be appreciated, and any drawings or renderings would be great as well.

Nobody has any thoughts on this idea?

I think it would look more "race car" and be more effective than the diffusers available now.

When I get my car back I'm going to play around with this idea and see what I come up with.

Been done. Looks awesome. All diffusers have a limit of function based on angles, airflow, etc... If you're down for cutting the whole rear bumper up, it would be amazing.

At the last meet I was at a guy had an Elise diffuser installed. Rear bumper was cut and exhaust venting above the diffuser. Not the car I saw, but similar idea.

I wanted to do something similar to this except I wanted to make my own diffuser rather than using a lotus style one.

Now I see what's behind the black plastic piece.

What I have in mind is similar to the diffuser in the pics of the white car, but with the diffuser conforming to the opening in the rear bumper, with a cutout for my single exit Tomei exhaust.

From what I see in the pics, it looks like my idea will work.

Anything more than a 7-11° angle, you'll have separation in the flow, and lose efficiency. Even in that range, it can vary...we tried 11° on one car I worked on, and it didn't function as well as the 7° diffuser.

Generally rules dictate race cars to have "flat" single angle diffusers. Since you aren't bound by those rules on the street, a conic curve would be good, like the old tunnels, of race cars in the past. Something like an ellipse, that gradually gets steeper as you go aft.

What Gunman said. Plus at higher angles, it is sensitive to ride height and attitude changes on the car.
