PDX Audio Shop Recommendations?

Familiar thread format here.

Anyway, I'm looking at switching up the god-awful system on my BRZ and I'm wondering if anyone's got a place they trust for the labor part of things and maybe some expert advice. There's gotta be some great ones in town.

King pin in Wilsonville is good and Streamline Audio in Vancouver Wa.

I have no idea if this place is any good, but there is a place called Audio Source over in Vancouver - http://www.audiosource.us/ // https://www.facebook.com/pages/Audio...819740?sk=wall

I initially found their website while searching for window tint, but they seem to deal largely with electronics.

Again, I have no idea if they're creditable or what sort of work they do, but I figured I'd throw that out there. I wouldn't mind having a back-up cam installed eventually, so I held onto the link.

Let us know if you end up finding a place that does good work!

Kingpin looks real solid and they've got a pretty massive gallery and list of endorsements. I need to head down to that part of town this weekend anyway so I'll pop in.

Stay away from Stereo King, Best Buy and Car Toys.

The Sound Choice seems to be a good shop.

Hey y'all, just as an update, I've been referred to MusicarNW by the guys at Simplicity in Sound, who do all the absolutely mental builds we've seen from down in CA.

I'll be checking them out.

I will be looking for someone to installl my beat sonic backup cam,

Dohvak 05-19-2014 02:49 PM

For Beaverton, OR area, I would recommend Ken from Sounds Unique. The link is to my car photos on his website's portfolio. This is the second project I have had him work on for me and he is absolutely driven to perfection. I can't recommend him enough.

I had tinting and a complete sound damping (floor, firewall, roof, drive shaft, trunk and rear deck, and unibody uprights). Replaced all wiring, added sub, replaced all speakers, and head unit. The attention to detail was so good that he refit everything into the wiring harnesses to make it all look as close to stock as possible - really a level of detail you only see when someone does the work themselves.

NW Audio Shops

So starting to think I need more noise in my car...any suggestions for audio shops to get a custom box made to fit in my spare tire spot?

budget isn't set yet but will probably be doing this before the end of summer...

I was able to keep my audio bug suppressed with performance parts but it's starting to want more bass

wrohdejr 05-30-2014 04:56 PM

I know people hate them but CarToys made my custom fiberglass speaker enclosure.

ilpad 05-30-2014 05:39 PM

Expect to drop 700 on a custom fiber glass enclosure.

Id recommend looking at the pre fabbed JL audio solutions. Very small with amazing sound.

stockysnail 05-30-2014 09:54 PM

Track days first. Sound 2nd. ;) OEM audio plus is a great do it yourself solution. Doesn't go in the spare tire well though. Spare tire to me is too valuable to not have as last think I want is to wait hours for a tow truck or let alone pay for one.

Oh and Sound Choice is pretty good.

My enclosure was only $400 not including the sub.

I got a quote for a similar setup to yours for $520 and a horizontal spare tire enclosure was $680. I would probably buy one like yours if I could get it for $400.

ilpad 05-31-2014 02:40 AM

just came across this new JL setup

I love my enclosure. Working on buying a second one.

EDIT: Also, I got rear ended really hard, took out the trunk, the rear bumper and my Perrin 3" exhaust all the way to the OP. Including the crashbeam. Sub box took it like a champ though. I swear it asorbed energy and saved on repair costs.

Audio shop topic already started and linked in sticky. :)

MERGED

I agree with ilpad, the JL Audio box is what I have in my car... fits a nice 10", really need more you should get a custom one made for the other side, that way you can keep your spare...

I've been looking at getting this box but for the life of me I can't tell how one would mount it. How did you, also by that pic I don't see your amp, where did you put that?

Box is held in by magic. And by that I mean the trunk lid holds it in. There is a metal tab you put up into the rubber liner that seals the trunk. Thats all that holds it and it works VERY well.

My amp is under the drivers seat where it can have cool air blowing past it.

This is a close up of the mounting tab under the stiff portion of the weatherstrip. Simple and virtually unnoticeable, but very functional, not to mention track day approved as it requires no tools and takes 10 seconds to remove the enclosure! When the trunk is closed it locks the snugly fit enclosure in place. We also include a small (optional) back to back 3M Dual Lock strip to mate the carpeted surfaces on the bottom of the enclosure, for added friction during extreme cornering (or if you decide you want to keep it in on track days).

Any shop people might trust a little more South, as in Eugene?
