I'm surprised the dealership wouldn't want it with such few km's and the lower buyout price, they could probably make a quick few bucks on it AND have you in monogram.

Ya me too. They make nothing off me though. FYI to tmmc employees monogram series you are not eligible for the discount.

I thought about doing this myself. But it's a lot of work and it'd take a loss on mine just to get the seats, which is really all I want.

They wouldn't have lied to you to screw you. Heffner doesn't give you the deal, TMMC does. Whoever told you just didn't know and didn't want to promise you something that they couldn't deliver.

I bought my FR-S from Heffner, I actually thought they were the most honest Scion dealership I've ever dealt with.

But there's no way the dealership gives him anything close to what his current buyout is. I've gone through enough new cars in the past 15 years (10) to know that there is no such thing as a 'get out of my lease free' deal. If he's lucky he's $3k upside down. Take the loss and move on... Nobody will give him what he owes and if they do, he's incredibly fortunate.


Plus as far as I know, even if someone assumes the lease, the original owner is still ultimately responsible if the new owner defaults on the lease. That is not a risk I would want waiting to possibly happen.


Then there is the matter that it's a used vehicle and probably not eligible for replacement cost insurance if you want that. It's the little things like this that you have to take into account. Ultimately people are cheap when it comes to buying a used car.

This is not true at all. The person who the lease is transferred to, becomes 100% responsible as all terms of the lease (including default) are transferred.

In the average situation, sure, but on a desirable car with less than 7k km's the situation is a bit different.

Yep. There are lots of non-Scion dealers out there that would love to have this car. Talk to the right one on the right day and you might just walk away from this.

All I can say is that this is not my experience. I looked into transferring a lease once and this is what I was told. However I realize now it may not be the same between different manufacturers. At the time this was GM.

For sure the terms of the lease need to be read carefully, who knows what some manufacturers have hidden in the fine print. I've either gotten out of a lease or taken over a lease from the following: Honda, Infiniti (Nissan), Kia, and Acura (Honda again), and I was even sent a letter that took me off the lien. I could see GM pulling that kind of BS though lol.
