Gear grind downshifting from 6th to 5th

Problem:

My white 13' standard frs ALWAYS grinds when i downshift from 6th-5th. clutch is fully engaged and it still grinds. i have to jam it in for it to lock into 5th. It still grinds a bit even when i throw it hard into 5th from 6th.

Questions:
1. What do you think the problem is?
2. Are there other frs' out there that have this problem?
3. Is this a common issue?
4. What can I do to fix this?

Additional information:
- manual tranny
- everything is stock on my car except for my greddy evo 3 catback and my perrin silicone radiator hoses, which i doubt both would impact the transmission or gearbox
- I've got 25,000 kilometers/ 15,500 miles on my car as of now
- I've been generous on my clutch since day 1.
- Car purchased june 2013 brand new with greddy evo 3 exhaust installed immediately
- I fill up 94 premium and have since day 1
- 3 oil changes so far

Thanks in advance for the help!! :D

You might consider changing the transmission oil.

Reproduce for dealership and receive new transmission. Mine still occasionally does this, but I haven't done a high-speed downshift from 6th to 5th in some time.

try to change transmission & Diff fluid and see it gets better.
I would visit dealer and reproduce the problem and for fix

I had the same problem from day 1. When I brought it in for it's first service I told the service manager about it. He drove the car and confirmed the transmission had a problem. The problem was reported to Toyota. After thinking about what they where going to do about it (repair or replace) for 7,500 miles they finally decided to replace it. It took 5 days but I have a new transmission and it's really nice to have a six speed instead of a five speed. I learned to just skip fifth gear. It turns out that the synchronizers are made out of brass and if you miss a shift you can grind them down.
I would say to just bring it to the dealer and let them do their thing. Don't do anything yourself (it IS under warranty).

Good Luck.

Thanks for the input, I'm going to talk to the dealer tomorrow about it! :)

Take a look at my post history, had your exact same issue. Tried a fluid swap, no dice, took it to the dealer, who promptly told me that doing a fluid swap had voided my warranty. Knew that was bullshit, so I took it to another dealer, and they confirmed that the 5th gear synchro was effed. They replaced my transmission, and in the three months since, haven't had a single issue.
