3000 Mile oil change...

Tried to make appointment for 3000 mile oil change, and the dealer is saying don't need until 5000 miles. Don't have my book in front of me, but swear it said 3000 checkup and change. My wife had us buy every warranty under the sun they offered and want to make sure I don't mess anything up.

When did everyone else do their first service?

I got it done at 2900 miles. It was free.

It's supposed to be 3000 & 7500 miles. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8374 Click the Link to the Maintenance Manual

Though you will find differing opinions, especially when it comes to the use of the car. (DD, Autocross, Track, etc)

Got my free 7500 done at 3700 no problem

Thanks guys. I believe I will just go ahead and get it now as I'm at 2975. Guess it could never hurt. After 16 months of ownership, I'm more worried length of time between changes instead of miles. But guess may not be a problem with the synthetic oil.

Spoke with the guy at Subaru who I bought it from and he said Subaru now says the first oil change should be done at 7,500. He however disagreed with it and said that he and the people in the shop still recommend the first at 3-3.5k then the second one at 7.5k and then every 7.5k after.

I am doing mine at 3000, dealer set up the appointment for this Friday.

I called and said I really want to get my first oil change done at 1500 miles.

They did it. Free, of course.

Pacific Subaru.

It's 3750 miles. Usually the dealership will put a sticker on your upper left edge of the driver's side of the front windshield that will tell you at what mileage or what month to bring the car in for its next service appointment.

After 16 months of ownership, you haven't changed the oil? I'd definitely change it then - it's not just based on mileage, it also is based on time.

Will probably do my first at 3750, then 7500 and every 7500 after that.

I did one at 1K due to all the talk about new engines in other threads.(seems like 1/2 the people thing its good and the other 1/2 say not needed) But wanted to make sure the 3K covers all the warranty crap my wife went with. Just don't want any loop holes over the next 7 years.;)

Kostamojen 03-11-2014 05:54 PM

My first was at 1500 due to a long trip picking up the car.

Second was last month at just under 5000 miles. I'm probably going to do once a year or ~6000 miles.

My owner's manual says the first change should be at 7500, but the dealer sent me a different maintenance schedule that had the first change at 2700, the second at 7500 and then every 7500 thereafter. The dealer's schedule makes more sense. You really want to make that first change early to get rid of the inevitable crap in the oil that shaves off during break-in.

If I'm not mistaken, synthetic oil is supposed to be changed every 12 months if the car is not driven the recommended number of miles. It lasts a lot longer than conventional oil, but it doesn't last indefinitely.
