Hood Dent =(

So a box from a shelf in my garage fell on my hood today.....so now I have a nasty dent.

Anyone have an idea how much it will cost or any suggestions on what I should do to fix it. I'm thinking I might have to pay as much as replacing the whole hood :(

any suggestions or thoughts would be great thanks :)

They're going to need to fill the hole and repaint the hood unfortunately.

If I were you, I would just apply touch up paint and build it up. I wouldn't spend too much money on something so minor.

Paintless dent removal may be able to help but the sharpness of the ding and the paint damage (it is a pearl) mean that to repair it completely, paint will be required

If you do decide to fix it, you will probably be better off just buying a CF hood.

get one of those jdm bandaid stickers, consider it a battle scar

Sorry, it's totaled

Nasty.

Since getting it fixed professionally is going to be $$$, you could try to knock the dent out from the underside of the hood so that it's more flush and then using touch-up paint to make it less visible.

CF hood time.

That's a pretty deep dent. Here are some recommendations for you:

1.) Have a body shop tap out the dent and repaint ($$$)
2.) Have a body shop tap out the dent and vinyl cover the hood ($$)
3.) Have a body shop tap out the dent and plastidip the hood ($$)
4.) Repace hood with a carbon fiber hood ($$$ / about $750)
5.) Tap out the dent yourself and plastidip the hood with 3M's plastidip ($ / cheapest)
6.) Don't do anything or buy touch up paint and protect it from rust ($ / cheapest too)

I just finished getting some dents out of my roof caused by a touchless carwash. Sad to say, it wasn't touchless... Hope this helps :)

PDR should be able to take care of the dent. Paint is another issue.

This is why EVERYONE should have a best friend that owns a body shop. I keep all his technology going and he keeps my cars looking new. I don't charge him for any work and he does not charge me anything. It is a win win for me. :)

Probably $500 or so, get a few quotes.

amazingbrz 03-11-2014 04:05 AM

Thanks for all the suggestions. Im still emailing around all the shops. Just seeing what my options are. If nothing comes around I may go the cheap way and deal with in further down the line when I have enough money to shell out for this dent. I might actually just put a sticker over it temporarily lol so it will prevent rust hopefully

spitfire481 03-11-2014 01:48 PM

We would charge somewhere around $400. It's aluminum so pdr is probably not going to work since the aluminum is stretched

Apex-Wolf 03-11-2014 03:31 PM

I had a much worse dent in my door (Jack ass with trailer backed up into my car) I got the quote at $450

himbo 03-11-2014 06:06 PM

DON'T just take it to a body shop. Find a qualified paintless dent repair guy in your area and let him work his magic. It will also be relatively cheap and a really good PDR will make it look like nothing happened.

leicaboss 03-11-2014 06:31 PM

CF hood + paint?

TommyFive 03-11-2014 11:13 PM

PDR will not work, as Spitfire mentioned. Aluminum stretches very easily, and is a PAIN to rework a small dent. This one is sharp and deep and needs to be repainted - not a prime candidate for PDR.

It may very well be time for a new hood. Talk to insurance to see if you can get a new hood painted for the cost of your deductible - depending on what quotes you're getting they may be able to play ball and get you a more durable hood to prevent claims in the future.

And don't worry about rust - it's aluminum.
