Paint Chip Woes

Hello all,

While washing my car I noticed a dime sized chip in the paint on the roof of my beloved BRZ. Before I take it to a body shop I'm wondering if you fine folks can give me some advice. What methods can I take to fix this problem? Will dr. color chip be enough to tackle this?

Thanks, and sorry for the low quality phone pictures.

I have a smaller chip in literally the exact same spot after getting hit with a rock. I just used touch up paint to fill it in. Idk if it would really be worth it to have a body shop repaint it cuz they might just use touch up paint to do it or suggest you do it yourself, thats what they told me when they saw mine when I called and asked them about it. Here is a pic of my chip:

Sorry I don't have any pics of it now that I have touched it up.

I ordered the dr color chip kit. I'll post pictures of the end result. Wish me luck!

The Subaru paint really sucks. It's SO thin. I was going over my car today and touched up probably 25 tiny chips.

A clear bra doesn't protect the whole car though....

And not all of us can drop all that money on a clear bra or we don't like the way a clear bra looks on the car. Just saying that a clear bra isn't going to solve everyone's paint chip problems.

On the front end of the car yes it will stop 90% of chipping.
Looks great to, if it doesn't look good then the installer sucked

And if you had the money to buy an FRS or BRZ then yes my friend you probably have the money

I'm just saying what if you get in an accident? I've had two people back into me and have had to replace the front bumper twice in only 8 months of owning the car. If I had gone the route of a clear bra it would have been a HUGE waste of money. I would rather just use touch up paint on the chips and if I have the car long enough and feel like doing it I can have the bumper re-painted and it would be about the same as a clear bra.

Not everyone wants to spend upwards of $300-400 for a clear bra for part of the car or even more for to do the whole car.

If someone wants to do it go for it and good luck! It works for some but not everyone.

Yeah true that! Can't control other idiots on the road :(
Sorry to hear that misfortune.
Like I tell my customers, it's just nice to protect the factory paint.
You would be amazed to se the hits the film can take though.

So I finally got around to trying the dr. color chip. Basically, it was the right tool for the wrong job. It worked wonders on speck sized chips.

This chip, however, is about the size of a dime and apparently to deep for dr. color chip to fill in. I must have applied about 10 different coats in the span of a week and this is about as good as it will get.

The color match was really great and the it was very easy to apply. The instructions were clear and I watched a few videos online just to be sure I was applying it correctly.

I'll use a different method for a chip this size but will keep the dr. color chip for the smaller stuff.
