JL Audio 13W7 or Kicker L7s
Brand new to this forum but I need help deciding what route to go with my system.
Just got my FRS about a month ago and decided to throw my system from my previous car into it. I have 2 12" kicker L7s installed in a custom sealed box(they were in a ported box in my previous car). I have them running off a Kicker ZX 1500.1 amp and have an Alpine 4 channel amp powering my stock speakers. I also have an Audison Bit 10 Processor hooked up. My friend just got a new car and sold me his JL 13.5" W7 at a price I couldn't pass up. My question is. Should I put the W7 in (it would also go in a sealed box) or just keep the L7s The box for my Kickers is undersized so they are not as loud as they should be(still pretty loud though). I was told by my local audio shop that the W7 would outperform them if it was put in the right box but take more power and hit my alternator harder. I've always heard that the W7s are not as loud as L7s but have much better Sound Quality. I know both setups may be a bit of overkill for my little FRS but I'm looking to put my money towards some quality components before looking into new subs. Anyone else running either of these subs? Any suggestions would be appreciated. |
will the 13w7 even fit in the trunk with the correct box?!? the last 13w7 i heard took up the entire trunk of a dodge shadow..
personally, i think the l7's are spl monsters only. i've heard them a couple different times and they sound like garbage to me.. yes they're loud, but that's it. the w7 is much more musical, but at those spl's, 'musical' is the last thing that matters... |
At first I didn't think so but every shop I've taken it to has told me they could make a custom box to fit it in and would take about half the trunk and leave me space but only if it is sealed. Ported would be out of the question. Which is fine with me.
That's one of the main reasons I've started thinking about the W7. I've had the Kickers for a few years but since then I've kinda outgrown the whole "loudest bass in town" phase I want better sound quality and musical sound but still have the option to crank it up and get decent bass when I'm in the mood for it. |
I believe someone on here put a 13 dub 7 in the trunk, custom box sealed. The woofer was facing inside the car , rear seat delete.. This left no space in the trunk after the amps were in.. Ill see if I can find it

ok, did a little more digging, from what i'm seeing, looks like going sealed maims it's output
http://www.caraudio.com/forums/gener...ed-ported.html jl's recommended box is 2.37 cu ft.. that's pretty big, i can see how that would take most of the trunk.. |
would it be out of line to suggest something like selling the w7(shouldn't be a problem), and considering something like the sa8 or 10 in a smaller box that wouldn't 'disable' the trunk?
heard many good things about them.. i'm told it's one of the better sql subs on the market.. |

This is how I have it set up currently. I have an amp rack in place of the spare tire to save more space. If I put in the W7 I plan on putting in the place my current box is in. |

i got a 13W7 but the box didn't fit in the trunk so i took off the bottom of my back seat and put it there instead.

why that much bass in a can (scion frs is a can) tho? I dumped my 12w6 and now running a 8w7 in it, pounds like hell. On a bass hungry day i jump in my other car and listen to my 13w7's till i go deaf.

keep your l7's, more cone area means less power to get louder.

I've got a buddy who has a 13w7 in his jeep GC and that sub is slowly disintegrating the car, It literally snows from the headliner every time the bass hits.
I say good luck to anybody going bigger then a midrange 12, 8 or 10 seems like plenty to me....maybe i'm just getting old :iono: |

I've decided to go with the JL though. I'm going to sell these subs and box and then throw the JL in there. I found someone that could make a box for me. |
