STS-V's Smashed 2013 FRS Custom Build
Impatient? Well basically this thread shows this:

I have heavily modified a few vehicles in my past such as: A 584HP BMW M6: http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...6/DSC_0001.jpg STS-V Interlagos Blue / White Progress Thread! - BMW M5 Forum and M6 Forums [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuTQ1Vj12iU&list=UU7nnvIV9OeRCxkgY1A0u5DA& index=1"]584HP BMW M6 - Take Off & Exhaust Teaser Video. 2009+ CTS-V Killer - YouTube[/ame] A 573HP Supercharged STS-V: http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...93249178_n.jpg 2012 550HP STS-V's progress thread 2: Ported blower & More, inching towards 500 RWHP 550HP STS-V's progress thread [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFXfX7vOgX0"]573HP / 583 TQ Cadillac STS-V - Blower Whine & Exahust. 2009+ CTS-V Killer - YouTube[/ame] A Jeep Grand Cherokee WK on 22" Viper Wheels: https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...89403199_n.jpg STS-V WK Grand Cherokee Progress Thread - JeepForum.com A Cadillac STS V8: http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/9088/ngrz.jpg http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3806086/2007-cadillac-sts A Custom Matte Graphite Turbocharged Tiburon: (Rebuilt!) http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...n/DSC09324.jpg Rebuilt Custom Modified Tiburon - finished. - Hyundai Forum: Hyundai Performance Forum And a 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche LTZ with a 10" Lift and other goodies: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...00658461_o.jpg And a few others, like a Supercharged Cobalt SS in matte silver that was also a rebuilt. I just recently sold my M6, and my DD was this 2013 Scion FR-S. http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...kman/FRS/1.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...kman/FRS/2.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...kman/FRS/3.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...kman/FRS/4.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...kman/FRS/5.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...kman/FRS/6.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...kman/FRS/7.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...kman/FRS/8.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...kman/FRS/9.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...man/FRS/10.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...man/FRS/11.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...S/DSC05170.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...S/DSC05171.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...S/DSC05172.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...S/DSC05173.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...S/unnamed7.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...S/unnamed8.jpg Smashhhhhhh. So anyhow, this thread will be about the custom rebuild of this car. My ultimate goal is to get a 2012 XKR and throw on slightly modified Vanquish style body kit... but those are hard to find. So I'd like to tap into the vast knowledge and opinions of this forum to make this thing awesome until I buy an XKR. I have all the parts to rebuild, and the shop is fixing now. They are just awaiting me to choose replacement body parts - which is where I need some opinions. I like the TRD kit, but I cant really find it anywhere, and I figure I might as well do a whole kit to make this unique. Which leads me to the Extreme Dimensions 86-R non-widebody kit. I like this kit, but there are two problems. http://extremedimensions.com/images/D/109051_1.jpg http://extremedimensions.com/images/T/109113_1.jpg First, I cant find a single picture of it online. Maybe I'll be the first? Wahoo. I like the front bumper style, but I hate the stupid bar above the grill. Why couldnt they just make that all grille? I may ask the body shop to cut it and ill add a grille later. And secondly, I dont know where to find those LED lights. I saw the widebody version of this kit, but it diddnt have the lights. And that looks like it might be a hard to find product with that size and angle towards the middle of the bumper. But ideally I like this kit if I can use white/amber turn signals on the front bumper, and cut out that stupid front bumper bar. Anyone else have any suggestions? |
There are so many other solutions available that are actually available. I'd expand your search to include Rocket Bunny, ML24, Varis, Tommy Kaira, etc..
The above kit is alright but it's just a bad knock-off of the STi concept. Seems kinda meh in my opinion. |
Beware of duraflex, use to have a front lip on my corolla. it did not flex. They're made of some re-branded fiberglass material, go with polyureth or a stronger material!

ML24 looks like they dont have pricing, or any products available yet. Varis, japan only. Tommy Kaira, doesnt look like anything is being sold. Are there any actual parts out there available? |

Wald is a good one too. I'm not really much of a fan as you can tuck 10-10.5 on these cars but judging by your previous builds, I can see that you might not be satisfied with the factory sheet metal.
|
Thank you so much! Im thinking of going with the TRD kit, but I need a replacement FRS front bumper, which is impossible to find.
|
That M6 sounds so good!

That whine on the STS is AWESOME. It sounds so beefy with all the crackling. Too bad you don't have the M6 anymore, those look amazing to drive. Good luck with your build  |
I happen to be a fan of the LEG Sport kit (with the exception of the spoiler). If you want to be unique, you could go for the TOM'S kit (not a huge fan of the front, but the rear looks awesome).
I think the Tommy Kaira front bumper makes the car look like an XV20 (late 90's) Camry with an XTREME TO THE MAX body kit, so I'm not the biggest fan of that either. Revolution makes a pretty nice bumper that maintains most of the stock look: http://www.japanparts.com/images/Ima...ase=1&no=48106 You can get it on japanparts.com but it's pretty expensive. I think your best bet is to buy a used front bumper and then vinyl wrap the car whatever color you want. |

ML24 9 piece kit looks super sick in my opinion, it's aggressive without going crazy.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6109 But it does require the front bumper because it's a lip, which shouldn't be a problem if you get one used and have it wrapped *hint hint*. Also, I know that @Carson Toyota was selling the kit here a while back, not sure if they're able to get it anymore. It will cost a pretty penny though: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14209 This is the LEG Sport kit: http://www.japanparts.com/images/Ima...ase=1&no=45820 http://www.japanparts.com/images/Ima...ase=1&no=45824 You can find that at http://www.japanparts.com/db/partsli...mall=11&page=3. Also, you can see a pretty well compiled list of body kits for our platform here on this site at http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3505. Hope this helps you make your decision buddy! |
Frame rail Im using:
http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...RS/jeeze/0.jpg Hi all, Trying to get my car into the body shop so the frame rail can be welded on. Just put brand new tires on my wheels and a new battery, and now when I turn the key with the clutch in, nothing. Go back to the battery terminal, and I find the 140A AMP fuse on the positive terminal is blown. Is it replaceable? Do I have to replace the whole terminal? https://www.chasebays.com/content/pr...%20%281%29.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...629_202352.jpg On the positive terminal, its the left fuse. I popped the cover open with a screw driver, but I think its part of the whole damn terminal, which is going to suck. Thoughts? Suggestions? Here is a fun picture where the jack stands sank when changing the tires in 0 degree to 50 degree 24 hour ohio weather. http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...ze/0before.png http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...314_174444.jpg http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...314_174455.jpg Also, any idea if these Tein's are S-Tech or H-Tech? I bought them off a guy on craigslist. http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...314_174618.jpg |
Those should be S-Tech's, as long as they still go with their S-Tech green and H-Tech beige color schemes for their springs.

Finally the fun part. PARTS! The rail is pictured above, and hopefully going in this week. That leaves me with: http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...l/DSC_0011.jpg Duraflex 86-R Hood http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...l/DSC_0012.jpg Duraflex TRD side skirts http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...l/DSC_0013.jpg Misc front bumper parts, absorber, reinforcement, etc http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...l/DSC_0014.jpg Misc new front bumper parts, clips, tabs http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...l/DSC_0015.jpg front engine/underhood harness, engine cradle http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...l/DSC_0016.jpg Radiator, condensor http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...l/DSC_0017.jpg OEM scion front bumper http://s196.photobucket.com/user/cle...tml?sort=2&o=8 and finally the duraflex 86-R rear bumper. still waiting on the ABS TRD front bumper lip, grille, LH lower front control arm, and CFW Spoiler (if modbargins ever gets it in) |
How much did you get the wreck for? Looks like you are dedicated, can't wait to see how it turns out.

Duraflex is NOT the business. Good luck.

Word to all - avoid duraflex no matter what.

Not feeling it. Its a rebuilt FRS with a Duraflex body kit. Keep working at it.
|
Gotta actually look with your eyes before giving your opinion my dude. I canned the duraflex garbage and got the OEM TRD kit with Tom's rear bumper and quad exhaust. And a Seibon VS hood.
|
What happened to the dura flex kit?

Honestly don't know how duraflex is still in business in this kind of economy and that kind of shit product. and two sets of headlights?
|
I'm amazed by your work and your progress in such a short span of time! That paint looks better than OEM
And the CF spoiler with the parts painted was a good move IMO Nick C. |

Thanks nick! Your guys' fog lights are going in! I agree, the paint is better than from the factory - probably going to have the whole car repainted at this point. The spoiler looks AMAZING in person. I am just awaiting the seibon vs hood to arrive. Then I will paint that, and leave the scoop as a carbon fiber accent, and have the roof carbon fiber as well. |
I've never seen a body shop that communicates in snapchats! :bonk:
Sweet build! Can't wait to see more! |

I'd love to add them on the site somewhere Nick C. |
Want to see that rear bumper installed, but killer looking build so far!
