I hope everyone will watch this, it's the most excited I've been for a TV show since The Next Generation.

Nice, I had seen commercials for it, but reading the story you linked has pushed me over the tipping point so now I'll actually try to watch it. I was a big fan of Planet Earth so I think this will be right up my alley. :)

In fact I'm sure if this series eventually ends up being available on BluRay I'll probably pick it up.

So what did you guys think. I recorded it and watched the first episode yesterday.
I did not expect the anime portion and it seemed like they went a little bit on some church bashing during the Giordano Bruno segment. I understand it's a story of the scientific method prevailing eventually against ignorant beliefs, but it did seem a little bit like a chance for science/nerds to lash out against religion for a while. I'm not particularly religious so not really a big deal for me, but I can imagine some church groups getting in a huff about it after watching that.

The imagery, effects and graphics were as expected, gorgeous and the trip through the solar system and out to the edge of the observable universe was pretty awesome. Reminded me a lot of the old Powers of Ten film from 1977, a great film even today.

Anyways I look forward to watching more episodes as they come out.

I thought the first episode was "just ok", but I have a feeling the upcoming ones will be better.

Loved it. NDT is da man!! Loved the way he explained the timeline of our universe and where mankind fits into the "12 month" calendar.

I think the fundamentalists may have a hard time with that too.

Only thing that bugged me was way too many commercials.

Carl Sagan RIP brother, but I am glad there was a social link between him and NDT.

BigFatFlip 03-11-2014 08:31 PM

I like it. I've always been a fan of NDT and his way of making physics more accessible. I really like the animated segments, almost Disney quality in HD. I'm catholic, and personally, I didn't take any offense in the "bashing" segment, just unfortunate real history. The calendar was my favorite part, just the way it gives a scale of both insignificant we are AND how much we have progressed in a relatively short time. I'll keep watching it.

Likewise, a big fan of NDT. Also the calendar segment. I'm already familiar enough with of the scale of time but it was interesting to see it represented that way. Mind boggling.

Can't wait for the next episode.

Rollan 03-12-2014 05:54 PM

I hope Dr. Degrasse explains one of my favorite topics in Physics. The second law of thermodynamics, since it's based on the cosmos. How fun ! I wrote a paper about it when I was in college and the factors that fall underneath of thermodynamics are mind boggling. Especillay "Entrophy." I tend to get carried away when I do experiments with solid and liquid materials, maybe I can show a little bit of a nerd in me at one of the mid week meets. lol Hurry UP SUNDAY FUNDAY !
