Yeah, I agree with slimfit - I formally request someone with mad photoshop abilities to chop the top off. I think it's possible that'll be down the pipeline a ways. Subaru is trying to get away from the frameless door windows, but one huge reason to use them is that it's way easier to make a convertible version. I think this car will look good as a convertible so long as it fits lower than the bodywork (think miata, not mini). Take the line along the top of the door and run it straight back - it's like they designed it with this in mind...

Thanks! I have a couple more I'm working on tonight. Any other requests?

Jordo! 10-19-2009 08:37 PM

This car should not be a convertable -- all it will do is add weight to the frame...

Also, one of us maniacs might actually roll it :D

slimfit 10-19-2009 09:27 PM

^^Why not? Hell even mazda kept the miata retract top under 2600lbs. The ones who would even consider a convertible probably wouldn't track it anyway. But I do agree with the idea of roll bars, lol.

Agreed. Not to mention, it looks awful as one in those chops.

I think it actually looks very good for a convertible in those chops!

Red on Time attack TE-37's with a black roof and hood.. please? :thanks:

Black FT-86 10-20-2009 01:56 AM

Thanks for doing the convertibles..

One further request if it's possible for ya; get rid of the rear little window and instead of having that bump behind the rear seats, continue the line from the side mirror (top of the door metal) back to the tail of the car. I think that will help clean it up considerably.

Glad you said that cuz I was thinking the same thing. I decided to do away with the windows completely and give it a new background. Lemme know what you guys think -Chris-

Was this more along the lines of what you were talking about? Got rid of the rear window and hump and straitened the lines a bit. IMHO not feeling it. I like the other I did better but I'll play with it a bit.

It's hard to find solid points where the hatch ends and the roof begins. Hopefully this is close to what you wanted. -Chris-

Black FT-86 10-20-2009 04:31 AM

Goddardca,
The blue one you took the bump and window off of was what I was thinking... After seeing it that way though, I agree with you, not feeling that so much - makes the back end look weird. I wonder if they'd keep it a 4 seater for the convertible, because that hump in the back might be odd if it's right next to the rear passenger's head! :D The way you have it picks up the shut line of the doors nicely, so that seems like the most artful way of doing it so far. keep up the good work.

Coupe > convertible. Seriously, those 'vert chops looks awful. IMO. If Toyota really wanted to make this a hairdressers car, then they would've debuted it as a convertible and not a coupe in concept form.

When's the last time you watched a company debut a new car as a vert that went to production before a solid top? 350's/370's/G37's/IS's/430/gallardo/veyron/R8 I can keep the list going but you get the idea. Just because they didn't release a vert yet doesn't mean it's not in the works or should have come first. :iono:

I think I will be doing this when the car comes out. I think it looks perfect. Maybe the car in a different color.

Same here. Gold/gunmetal/gloss black? And do you want it on the stock photos or of one of the verts I did and finally what color did you want the car itself?

Choices choices lol. Gloss black would be cool on white in one of the stock pics.

The FT-86 should not be a convertible since the original AE86 was never one. I could be wrong, but I don't remember that body style existing with the AE86. If Toyota wants its customers to own a RWD convertible, then they ought to resurrect the MR-2 Spyder.

They have to keep everyone happy and with everything else on the market there is room for a vert. Although I would prefer a coupe 100% of the time, it's not up to us. I personally don't like vert 350Z's so that's why I got a coupe instead of te vert but I also understand that there was a market for them.

Something is going on here. Whenever I'm on the home forum page it shows 6 pages for this thread, however when I'm in the thread, it only shows 5 pages. Hmm... Nevermind, seems like it's something with IE.

One pearl white on black work meisters:

I sincerely hope that whenever this car debuts and whatever Toyota decides to call it, that the owners have more than enough sense TO NOT DO THIS:

To not rice it out.
