Innovate/ Sprintex vs vortech
Same dyno, same day

Wow!! Forget the numbers, check the graph! Sprintex making substantially more power and torque than Vortech everywhere.

Very interesting indeed

Drove in this car yesterday. All i can say is wow. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear is wheelspin all the way. Also drifting is made so easy. Torque is instantly.
Also remember that the RGM's vortech is only boosting 0.4/0.5bar. But the centrifugal supercharger system from vortech feels very sluggish compared to the Sprintex setup. You need to ref the hell out of the vortech 86 to get anywhere. I guess centrifugal is sort of similiar to a turbocharged system. (It needs revs) Congratz to the Innovate Team for building such a beast. Can't wait to see how she runs with meth. The launch control is also a very cool feature. Exactly sav. That is what wins a race, not the peak numbers

Oh and a stock 86 made 89 kw on same dyno.
|
yowser...

That torque curve is flippen impressive :eyebulge:
Well done to the RMS team  |
This dyno is very stingy

Stingy or not that's damn impressive figures using 86wkw stock as base.
Question though can this dyno really be that stingy to knock RGM from advertised 220wkw to 147wkw. |
Honestly, I don't think that RGM ever said 220WkW. I think they advertise as fwkW, which is pretty much accurate.
Also: for a professional, no fuss, send your car in, get it back with peace of mind that the job was done properly, FI solution, RGM is probably the only RSA option. If you are chasing big kW and are prepared to put the time and the PT in, then there are definitely other options. Each to their own.... |

It's your choice how much boost you want to go for, how much risk you're prepared to take, and what you're prepared to pay. IMO, it boils down to 5 things - 1. How much boost you want. I'm only running 0.44 bar (MAP 1.37 max less 0.93 static @ 750m asl) and that works great for me. 2. The quality and inherent risk level of the tune. I'm comfortable with my piggy-back setup and I believe it's as low-risk as possible. 3. Who does the job. I chose RGM who have been doing this for 21 years, and should know what's what and hopefully not screw it up. 4. The specific characteristics of the conversion. eg: I don't like S/C howl, and I don't like turbo lag - etc. 5. What you can afford, and where you peg your performance/risk/price balance point. In the end, you go with what feels right for you and there's no one size fits all with FI - we're all different. Some of us use single ply toilet paper, some of us use two ply, some of us use $100 bills, some of us use newspaper, and we could argue about that ad nauseum if we wanted to... :D I'm hoping that my car will still be going strong and putting a big smile on my face many years from now. And if I start getting bored with it (or believe that I'm running out of years LOL), then for a few bucks, I'll fit a smaller pulley...QED. Rather go play on a racetrack with your stock 86 and enjoy what this car's actually all about. |
Without turning this into a huge X vs X debate, I think more competition can only be a good thing. One more choice at a good price point is a welcome addition for the SA market. There's always going to be supporters of a particular set-up or preference for a certain way of gaining power on these cars. For me, the 86 is more toy than my daily driver - spending a bit of time tweaking it is part of the fun. If I need to spend 2 or 3 days a month in a workshop, I'm not dependent on having the car and I get to learn each time. For others, I totally understand if you don't have that option and it needs to be fully supported in a different manner. Different strokes for different folks. At the end of the day, we share a common passion for this car - tuned or stock.
Agree also with some that perhaps this is not the car to chase big KW in. But then again, where's the fun in not trying... |
