From what I read a while back on the forum, and this could be completely false but the JDM tips didn't pass USDM specs/regulations because they stick out slightly past the diffuser. So they dived into the Subaru parts bin, because the USDM tips are identical to the 3rd Gen Subaru Forester.

Now this is not to say that if you install them, you are going against laws/regulations. I think it just involved dealers being able to sell it, or something. I forget exactly what was said.

This is correct. They didn't pass because of potential burn issues if someone were to walk past and rub their bare leg against the tip. Total joke.

Yes I knew I remember reading it somewhere haha. If the person is that close to burning their leg, they rubbing against the bumper almost lol.
