BRZ: 2014 NAVI- No night Mode? Please Help

Just bought a 2014 BRZ and i've been playing around with all the navigation features. For some reason, I can't get the nag unit to use its "Night Mode" while (of course) driving at night? i've tried everything!

Has anyone found the solution to this?

Thanks in advance!

Is your dash dimmer control dial clicked all the way to maximum brightness? This would prohibit the nav from going to Night Mode. Click it down to a non Max setting and it should change as appropriate.

This is it exactly. With the dash dimmer at max brightness, it puts the HU into permanent day mode. Any other setting will enable the HU to dim when the headlights come on.

I forgot what page that was in the manual, as it was the salesman who mentioned that to me (iirc).

Good to know, for those times I put the lights on in fog or rain, but it's not really dark enough to need the HU in night mode.

I just discovered today that there's another very easy way to override night mode (and day mode as well) on the BRZ.

If you press and hold the "Audio" button, a hidden menu appears that, as far as I know, is not in the manual for the nav unit. If you're in day mode, a "Night" button appears at the top of the screen in that menu. If you're in night mode, that button says "Day" instead. Pressing that button toggles the night/day modes and causes it to ignore the headlights without having to adjust your display to full brightness.

So if you're in the rain during the day and want your display at daylight brightness, just press and hold the Audio button and push the "Day" button on the screen. I wish those idiots had put that in the manual instead of having me curse them for months for not including an intuitive way to override the automatic brightness settings.
